I'm getting ready to change my K1200LT seats and appreciate advice from anyone who has changed out their seats. I live in LA and favor one of the three only because they are relatively closed (for a ride-in).

The Corbin front looks very small (I'm 6'5) and they charge extra for the passenger backrest recovering.

Let me know your recommendations--thanks, Captain Tom

I had mine done by Bill Mayer. The seat is nice, and everything went smoothly with the ride-in appointment. I'd recommend them.

I talked with Corbin at Laguna Seca, and they seemed completely uninterested in talking to a potential customer. Kind of strange. I've read some issues with Rick Mayer, but I have no direct experience.

Bill Meyer

I had a Moto Guzzi saddle done by Rocky at Bill Meyer in Ojai. I am tall, so he built up the edges for leg support, and carefully fit it to my size. Each saddle is fit to the rider. I highly recommend him.

And after you get the new saddle, a little test ride up highway 33 is also highly recommended.

Bill Mayer Saddles

Thanks. Score is Bill Mayer 2, the rest: zip. The Corbin rider's seat looks very small and I since they use their own seat shell, it only has one height (stock can be adjusted up to one inch for a tall rider like myself). Did it take you guys any time to get adjusted to the seat? Thanks,

Seats are subjective. That being said, I love my Rick Mayer seat. Can stay on it all day.

Corbin seats are notoriously hard. Also, they're more of a one-size-fits-all replacement seat than a true custom-fit saddle. I tried one on my LT and didn't like it at all. Plus I've heard a lot of bad things about their customer service. That said, I've heard of guys who are happy with their seats. Guess I just don't have a Corbin butt.

Rick has a great reputation for his saddles, but a somewhat haphazard reputation for customer service and slow turn around times. That said, those who own his seats rave about them. A ride-in appointment probably helps quite a bit here.

Bill (Rocky) Mayer also has a great reputation. I have heard of a couple of unsatisfied customers, but I have heard of dozens of very happy customers. His design doesn't have any top surface seams, which gives one less area of irritation on long rides as well as a slight advantage in wet weather. Again, if you can do a ride-in, that's the best option.

I went with Bill (Rocky) Mayer on my LT. The next day I did 750-miles in about 12 hours, and the exact same 750-mile return trip the day after that. The best compliment I can give is that I just never thought about my seat while riding. I've been happy with it on countless 1,000-1,500 mile days over the next 60K miles.

In fact, I was so impressed that my new GT went to Rocky the day I picked it up from the dealer, and 33K miles later (including many 1,000-1,500 mile days) I have zero issues with the seat. I can easily ride a full tank of fuel, fill up in under 5 minutes, then get back on and do it again, pretty much for as long as I want.

I suppose that's all you can really ask for in a custom saddle. :)

I have a Rick mayer seat and was happy (ish)....
Was still a little too high in the front for me, so I added a "shim" under the seat to raise the back up....
After many test rides, I discovered that 1/4" one way or the other makes a huge difference (for me).
Finally got the exact right height and very comfortable..
