Hi all:

Greetings. I have a 2008 BMW R1200RT stored indoors. It has not been on the road for almost a year. I would start the bike and let it idle for at least 5 minutes twice or thrice a month and the bike will start right away.
However, recently I didn't start it for a least a good month and a half and now when I tried, it just wouldn't start. I checked the battery, its fully charged. I did also connect my car battery, but it wouldn't start. The engine cranks/turns over full but just wouldn't start. I can hear the fuel pump etc.
On the dash, I get the attached red STOP ( ! ) light with the exclamation mark. I did research on this and it says the red error light signifies ABS failure. Could this cause the bike not to start? What could be the possible reason for the bike not to start?

Appreciate your help.

Regards,

I can't address your not starting other than the gas is glue now. Do not start your bike unless you are going to ride it for 20 minutes on the road. Put a quality maintenance battery charger on the bike and forget it until you can ride. Just starting it up does no good, but harm. Moisture is introduced and rusts everything and makes your oil into an acid bath that eats your bearings.
Suck out all the gas. Put a gallon of fresh in and rock the bike and then suck it out. Now put in a couple of gallons of fresh fuel, preferable non ethanol, and some SeaFoam additive. See it it will start up. If so go for a ride do not sit in the garage listening to it. Here is a picture of an RT idling for ten minutes. Fire is next.

More thoughts. The fuel filter could be clogged with junk from the old fuel, battery looking good but not really in good shape. Does the bike turn over on the battery? Is the voltage at 9.5 or higher. It has to be a fuel or electric problem at this point. So it narrows it down. Keep going on the forum for help.

Thanks Mr. Beech. Battery is fully power, I checked with my Fluke multimeter. I also connected my car battery. The engine turns over. cranking non-stop, but fails to fire. Ok , this will I will try and empty the fuel and flush with fresh fuel.
