Does anyone with a R1250RT have any experience at higher elevations. I am planning a trip from Tennessee to Washington State and was wondering how my bike would handle crossing the Rockies.

Anything with ride by wire throttle is capable of compensating for altitude. It was different in the past mostly because carburettor jets used for sea level were not right for altitude over 1000 metres and higher. The ECU in our bikes is more than capable of keeping the mixture within spec no matter where you take the bike.

I can't imagine the 23 1250's would be a problem at elevations. Both my 07 RT and my 15 RT have been all over the Colorado Rockies with zero difficulty. Even at the top of Pike's Peak, where I can hardly breathe, my current bikes have really done well. Maybe a little bit down on power but with traffic and how tight some of the curves are, I never really noticed it much.

I had a Yamaha FJR1300 from 2006 that didn’t have wire throttle but of course was fuel injected and it had a faulty TPS that meant it didn’t adjust to increased heights above sea level without the rider taking certain actions. It was the subject of a recall but goes to show that these things can’t be taken for granted.

Depends...but it's certainly true with carbureted bikes. Injection...depends. Turbo engines do great in high elevation. No, my RT doesn't have a turbo, but they are great up there.
