Have him send you a screen print of the results in the AIR system when he runs your vin or call another dealership and have them run it
I assume that the "AIR system" to which you refer, is an internal resource of BMW Motorrad? I don't see anything for it in an open Google search, as an independent organization. Can I assume that only a BMW dealer has the ability to access the AIR system, and perform the research? Thanks,

I can't seem to find a link to 'AIR', so Is this something only a dealer can access?
I'm planning on a ride into Raleigh this afternoon and coincidentally usually stop by that dealer when I go that way. I'll stop at their service counter while I'm there and advise.
(Strange having to prove to my dealer the he may not know what he's talking about.)

I do appreciate your attempt to help us out Fast1 regardless

The 2nd dealer in Raleigh didn't know much about it either today. There was only the Service Writer and a mechanic on duty this morning. The mechanic ran with it though and suggested that it will probably be the same as what they are doing to the GS' models, an Inspection with a tapped drain hole and a new driveshaft when I get near 36,000.
He didn't know whether the next 36,000 would include another drive shaft after that or just an inspection. I was told to wait for my letter from Motorad.

Where is the screen print or cell photo of the AIR vin search results?

AIR is only available to Authorized BMW Dealerships, so you are correct.

I just got off the phone a couple of days ago with my dealer in Modesto, Ca. They said that I qualify for a new tapped drain hole and a new driveshaft since I have over 36,000 miles. They will only do just the driveshaft, drain hole and a recall on my 2017 RT. Another dealer wants to do the 12,000 mile service with the warranty work. The dealer in Modesto is a great shop with qualified service mechanics. The service writer said that they just received the new bulletin a couple of days ago.(y)🇺🇲

I was at my bmw dealer yesterday and asked them to see if there were any open recalls/campaigns on my 2016 RT. The only thing is a computer flash update of some sort. Nothing to do with the drive shaft. To quote the service manager "those are usually for a GS not an RT"...

I don't know when the computer software update came out or what it addresses since my bike hasn't been at a dealer since 2017/2018. I'm considering whether to get the update done or keep my bike as is since it has no issues. Now if I could get a new drive shaft for free, I'd definitely bring it in for that.

According to one of my local dealers, the update changes a yellow warning light to red. I believe it had to do with the ESA (suspension.)
I told them not to worry about it.

I'm confused as to applicability for my '16 RT w/ 54K miles. Can you tell me exactly what to ask my local dealer to look up in the AIR system so I can get a definitive answer to this question re shaft replacement?

Thanks!

Read very closely what is on the attachment posted above.. (hint- your VIN or Vehicle Identification Number)

The affected vehicles based on VIN # have been marked with campaign number INFO337390 in AIR

Have them screen print or cell photo the results in the AIR system for your records.

You will need an authorized BMW dealer to do this check in the AIR system. (see post #49)

It is about as simple as can be.

I agree, I don't want my bike at a dealer except when I pick it up the first time and I'd like a drive shaft to last longer than an air filter which I know could go past 36k.
My bikes on the east coast have had pretty clean filters bu when I got back this year from riding in a NM dust storm for 15 mins the filter needed to be changed. Probably the only time I ever changed a filter and noticed a big difference in how my bake ran.

Got this today after my local dealer checked with their Rep.. (VIN did NOT show eligibility)...

From what I can tell from BMW the shaft has never been replaced We can simply replace yours under warranty. I have one here. I can pickup the bike as soon as tomorrow and we can replace the shaft as well as perform the Computer update. We could pickup between 11-12:00

Yay! Meeting driver at my heated storage location Tuesday morning! 😍 😃 🥰

I contacted my local bmw motoraad before Christmas and asked one of staff I chat to regularly if she'd mind checking it out. She checked via my reg and there was 2 - 1 for the cardan shaft and other for footpeg clips. So booked her in for it 25th January to sort it. Now got to contact back about using a possible courtesy bike while she's in 🙂. (Also asked would I get letter about it and she told me no, as I asked in dealer🤷‍♀️ - didn't buy from a bmw dealer so not sure for UK import).

"Done in about an hour"
As an LT owner, that was one the funniest thing I've read here.

Considering the distance, and lost time interacting with lesser skilled luddites, you best be able to manage on your own.

My friend who owns an old CB 750K 'Franken-bike' likes to say:
"If you don't fix it- you don't own it."

If you are quoting a point I made... that hour is what BMW corporate is payng for labor cost to the dealership to install the shaft.

If you have trained monkeys at your servicing BMW dealership, it make take longer than that hour for the exchange and the dealership will eat the additional labor expense.
