I thought I had heard of a GPS software that was running on OSX that would connect with some brand of GPS. There seems to be some fairly popular stuff on VersionTracker. Is anyone here using something on OSX to connect to any brand GPS unit?

One route is to purchase a GPS that is designed to work as a stand-alone unit. Tom-Tom is one company making stand-alone systems. Before purchase you might want to browse their support section to see how friendly they are to Mac owners.

Garmin to support Mac link...

I have been reading some reviews of GPS and really getting the bug to get one this year before heading out on my adventures. The only problem I see is that I am a Mac user, at least at home.

I know there are some Mac users on this forum. Anyone out there running GPS routing on their Mac, without Virtual PC? Someone must have already stumbled through this mine field.

And, no, you're not alone with frustration of Mac support by the GPS community and VPC has been of no help. Let's just hope the integration doesn't take too long.

 

I don't think Garmin will be Mac-friendly until late this year though.

 

I did find one solution for GPS software on Mac OSX. It has gotten pretty good reviews on Versiontracker, but I would need to investigate further before buying. Since I do not yet have a GPS unit, it will be a while before I get to try.

Interesting stuff Eric...But, WAY complicated compared to a simple, stand-alone weatherproof Garmin!
