One of my favorite things about the LT is being able to ride in comfort is almost any cold weather. Does the RT have wind protection on the legs and hands as good as the LT? How about general comfort issues comparing the bikes?

Never owned an RT, but it's my understanding that the two models are very comparable as far as wind/rain protection. What is not comparable is the smoothness of the powerplants. I highly recommend that you take an RT for a long test ride before you consider buying.

Both my (ex) LT and GT have Cee Bailey's windshield on them. With that, wind and rain protection is very comparable except for two areas. The arms (from bicep down) and the feet, especially when it's raining. You best be wearing quality rain gear or you're going to get wet in those areas. But this lack of wind protection is a real bonus when it's warmer out. I enjoy the extra flow while riding in 80+ temps.

I thought my 04 RT did but when I test rode an 07 it did not seem to. As a matter of fact, unlike many others I prefer the 04 to the newer models. I opted for the LT after an extended test ride(overnight).

We had the same question. rode both - in high wind, just by chance. For me, they were similar. For W, BIG difference on the back seat. The LT came home with us. Highly recommend riding both -- extended rides, if possible -- especially if you have a frequent passenger.

My $.02.

I had a 98- R1100RT and now an '05 LT. IMO, the RT gave better weather protection and in the cold my feet and hands didnt get as cold. However, the LT has those nice airwings under the turn signal that gets you a nice blast of air in the summer. I had a Secdum windshield on the RT and a Cee Baily on the LT. The Secdum is much better. On the other hand, the LT has soooo much more room between the rider and passenger and those heated seats and backrest for the passenger work very well.

With all the electric gear you can buy both bikes are excellent. However, what I looked at when changing bikes was comfort in the really hot weather. I tend to ride longer distances in the warmer months and 95+ degree weather on a LT is much better than the same on the RT. You get more air on the LT.
