Since I was taking most of the tupperware off to replace my radio, I've decided to service the bike, too - first time...ever! I'm actually enjoying getting to know the bike from the outside in.

I was checking the coolant hoses and notice the upper cooling water hose was flattened! May be my reason for overheating? Anyway, I want to change them all, along with the thermostat, coolant, etc. Where is the best place to go for these? Without going to the dealership, seems www.bikebandit.com is the only place that sells. Any other places?

BeemerBoneyard may have some. He seems to be carrying more and more new parts, but I have not checked for these items.

I understand cost are important but, one should consider supporting your local dealer after all will need them to stay in business. Every year we here about more dealers closing especially in this economy Just sayin we need to keep our dealers in business.;).

The flattened hose is a sign of a bad radiator cap. It's not allowing the coolant to transfer from the res. when it cools so it collapses the hose (negative pressure in the system) goes along with an overheat issue.
It can also be a sign of a restriction but you'll see that when the engine is hot.

Just tossin that out there.

I replaced all the hoses this spring. Got them at Countryside BMW http://www.bmwmotorcyclesofcountryside.com/ at a discount. All parts are discounted at least 10%. Sometimes more if the situaltion warrents it. Like they mess up your order! DAMHIK.
The top hose worm screw is a bear to get at... All the old hoses looked great for 13yo rubber as did the worm screw clamps.

HTH,

Try Bentonville (AR) BMW. Great folks, and typically 10/15/20 off.
