Where and how to mount a phone R1250RT 2021

With the frustrations over the TFT and the mapping, I have been trying unsuccessfully to mount my phone so I can follow the Tourstart navigation on it.

with the SOS button there does not seem enough room on the bars, and the wonderful Quadlock system, which fits in the fork stem does not fit the new 1250RT (I bought one, and it doesn't. )

There is a prefect bit of real estate right above the screen, but no easy way to fix it in place. (Gaffa tape would look obscene on this beauty)

Can anyone point me to a solution I can get in the UK that works please?

Looking at RAM mounts, but I have no experience of what works.

I used one of these Wunderlich phone adapter for SP-Connect fitment on stub handlebars

To enable the fitting of a RAM bracket and arm etc for my Zumo XT What did you do to your RT today?

Ah, thanks.....
Following your link, I Found this too:

Ram RT specific Fork Ball

Just assessing what will work best with an android funny sized phone.
I'm using something cheap that I like a lot. On the RT it just in front of the clutch reservoir at just the right angle. Nice and tight with a clean look. On my GS I've got Ram ball mount Frankenstein stuff and it's OK but I think it looks cluttered as can be. The phone shown in the pictures is a iPhone 12.

check out normski bmw accessories. He makes a bolt that replaces the clutch lever bolt with a ram mount on it. It works well. I think its normski-bmw.co.uk.

Ah, and this Guys a treat :)
Home made bolts.

I ordered the clutch perch clamp off a GSA to replace the RT one ...then I screwed a 10x1.5 thread RAM Ball into the mirror mount on it - VERY CLEAN INSTALL.
Can do the same on the right side...

Be aware that the clutch side has two versions - one has the screw hole to hold on the switch for the driving lights (in USA anyway - unsure in other markets)

I mount my sat nav using a mount from Telferizer that goes where the BMW emblem is on the bars. It is suitable for RAM mounts so you could probably source a suitable holder for your phone.

Don't tell anyone but this is the best, simplest, most functional phone mounting option with built in vibration mounting.

Viola, the Wunderlich handlebar bag, with phone window.

Needless to say the bag holds all sorts of bits and pieces including spare batteries for phones etc. I have a "T" USB connector that I can run from either the phone pocket or the power outlet on the right side of the bike.

I set my bike up this way for touring Scotland my bike phone was in the pocket and my personal phone was in the bag with Co-Pilot on it with the same routes, so I had a plan "A" and "B".

At the end of the day, I didn't need the backup plan, but when I tour I always download routes to Co-Pilot on my personal phone just in case my bike phone get fried

This might not help much, but on my 08, I installed the ram ball that attaches to the ring around the gas tank. And I purchased a "double elbow" from ram, and the xl grip for my phone. It rests in just the right place below my speedo and is stationary. Works wonderfully.

I'm using a Takform mount that directly connects into the handlebar and is nicely positioned right below the TFT in the open space above to BMW logo with power from a DIN USB adapter. Links and pics here.

Presently on my 2019 R1250RT, was on my GTL. Can charge while mounted. Works great. I have Illium bar risers. Motor vehicle Hood Automotive tire Automotive design Automotive lighting

Great minds think alike, except I use the Quad-lock Wireless Charger...I had issues with X-mount rubbers falling off and got fed up (even after glueing them)

I've been using my setup for over 6 years and never had an issue. I keep a battery pack inside the little compartment and use it when I need.
Well thank you for all the wonderful ideas.

I have eventually gone with boulderGT3s version. for the following reasons:

  1. Simply the UK bikes do not have straight handlebar room, so that discounts traditional versions.
  2. My phone Huawei P20 pro is it seems to big for the bag, otherwise I think that is my next favourite.
  3. The ram mount, as soon as Frankenstein was used with Ram mount, I could not see it as an elegant solution,
  4. Quadlock do not do a mounting or phone holder that fits.
  5. Wunderlich was also a close contender, and Nippy Normans were very helpful in making sure I was looking at the right parts, and helpful with advice.
I am hoping it is only a backup requirement, and the connectivity now works perfectly every-time. at £6.99 delivered it is neat, cheap, and I can use it on my push bikes too. Again thanks.

Why do you mount on the right (throttle) side? Do you reach across or use the touch screen when you're in cruise?

I used my "cheap" mount for the day today. I like it. Much better than the Ram balls and sockets I have on my GS. It fits tight like it was made for the left side of the RT. NO vibration, no reaching no worrying about someone swiping the mount when I get lunch. It wouldn't work on a GS.

I do use touch screen so its easier since I'm right handed. Plus on the left I need all my attention on traffic. Prefers nothing disturbing my attention.
