So Jane tells me I can select the low seat height for the GT. Apparently the standard GT seat offers two seat heights, 32.7" (high setting) or 32.3" (low setting). The low seat option heights are 31.9" (high) or 31.0" (low).

I am 5'11" and I have a 32" inseam - which seat do you think I should order? Is there really that big of a difference between the two? On the high side it's only 0.8" and on the low side it's 1.3" (admittedly a bigger difference).

What did you other GT buyers order? How tall are you and what inseam do you have?

I think that's wrong. BMW's information was the stock seat is 31.5" / 32.3". I checked the images released and the lowest part of the seat does seem to be 31.5" off the ground. Also I've sat on it and actually had very slightly better ground reach than on an FJR1300 (which also has a 31.5" seat), which can be explained by its relative narrowness.

The low seat option is 30.7" / 31.5" IIRC.

I don't remember the numbers for the K1200GT but I use the standard seat (5'11", 34" inseam). I generally keep it in the low position but sometimes raise it on long trips to straighten the knees a bit. The optional low seat would be much too low for me on the K1200GT. I need to compare the numbers with the K1600GT.

OK, I think the info I got from Jane might have been incorrect. I'm reviewing the US brochure that I pulled from BMW NA and it lists the unladen GT seat height as 31.9/32.7 and says the low seat is 30.7/31.5, so both measurements are 1.2" lower. That seems to make more sense. Since I'm sure I'll want to straighten my knee soem for longer rides, I think I'm going to stay with the standard seat.

There are four different seat combinations (2 one-piece and 2 two-piece). All of these seats will fit either the GT or GTL.

BMW K 1600 GT
31.89/32.68" (810/830mm) standard
30.71/31.50" (780/800mm) optional rider seat incl. pillion passenger seat
30.71" (780mm) special accessory seat, single-section
29.53" (750mm) special accessory seat, single-section

BMW K 1600 GTL
29.53" (750mm) standard
30.71" (780mm) optional seat, single-section
30.71/31.50" (780/800mm) special accessory rider seat incl. pillion passenger seat
31.89/32.68" (810/830mm) special accessory rider seat incl. pillion passenger seat

So the difference between the Standard GT seat and the Standard GTL seat is 2.36" (60mm) with the GT seat in the Low position, or 3.15" (80mm) in the High position.

I imagine the choice right now is between the "Standard" and "Option" seats listed for each bike model.

I'm guessing the "Special Accessory" seats would be a dealer order, but that may not be allowed on this first batch of pre-ordered bikes.

Thanks Ken, those match the numbers I found. Since the standard seat is a hair lower than a standard R1200RT and I fit that fine on a test ride I'm going to go with the standard seat.

Very helpful Ken! Do you happen to have access to the numbers for the K12/13GT? I'd like to compare to my present ride. I'm 34" and like the standard seat and switch it between low or high setting, depending on whim of the road.
