What did you do to your RT today?

147063 Views 1325 Replies 154 Participants Last post by  pchrt
Working on the RT is a little bit of therapy and a break from my daily work routine.
Spent a couple of hours this afternoon replacing the RH cylinder head cover and detailing the bike for a weekend ride. Last week I completed the 100,000KM service, including the valve and ignition timing checks (thanks Boxflyer for your assistance).
Hopefully it stays dry this weekend..

@Ugly Betty , @2tired , I notice you both are running amber auxiliary/running lights.
Do you notice any difference as far as seeing/being seen as opposed to running stock clear/white lights?
I very seldom ride at night, so my main concern is being seen.
I recently put the oem lower lights back on and went with yellow-ish covers vs the amber and I think that stands apart even more.

I do as well.

"yellow"..is an area in the spectrum that the eye is MUCH more sensitive to (green being the most ) and I find that it lets me see anything reflective much much farther down the road, than say..a BLINDING amount of "white" light.

But in practice, green is usually illegal, because green is an instructional color used by emergency response vehicles...and may garner attention you do not want.

My 928 has intense amounts of LED provided light out of LED bulbs, and 8" Euro H4 reflectors and lenses. It doesnt blind others, the euro lenses really control the light well.

But when I click them into yellow mode, its much less exhausting on my eyes, and I can see a whole lot farther.

It's the physiology of vision, I can see details better, and other are subconsciously alerted to my presence better.

What magic is a multi color headlight?

I hope to find that out this year. I put the selective yellow lenses (both flood) on late last year and only have a couple rides with them on. Might switch it up and put a spot on the left, flood on right. Who knows. The plan is to recruit the wife or daughter to do some testing.

That's sure a lot less expensive than purchasing new lights. In your photo, it appears the lights are two different colors but I'm sure that is due to lighting/shadowing in the garage. It got me wondering if having one white and one amber would have any benefit? (Would this even be legal?) If so, which side white? which side amber? Does it even matter?
Curious minds (well at least mine) want to know. :)

I do know that the DR1 and D4 combo REALLY light up the road... and the strobe function of the CANSmart is trippy. Might have to try yellow on the D4s after reading @speedtoys.racing comment.

Quick search of internets and I did not find any info about lighting having to be symmetrical. Only white and yellow on the front though (we kinda knew that one). Green is a super frowny face no.

LOL.. sorry about that, I had just hooked up one light and had one amber one hanging and the other amber hadn't been disconnected yet, I was just trying to see the difference in the garage and whether I wanted to remove those amber ones.

They don’t do anything as far as helping me see, but everyone I’ve ridden with say the yellows stand out more than white.

IMHO, the light on the right (left if you are on the bike) is much more visible.

+1.. as far as seeing... well... everyone has some different options on that:

cough

But not a probable cause stop...I believe.

Just one of those things where if you give a reason to stand out for a PC stop, this is the actual ticket you end up with.

Here's someone w/green covers... they don't look all that green.. maybe yellow w/green tint... hard to say..

@Motor32 would like to see a long shot of these.

Green alone is PC for a stop, at least in WA. Not to say anyone would actually stop you for it, but they could.

I have these same covers. Had amber first, then switched to yellow. Again, everyone tells me the amber stood out more than white, and yellow more than amber. I got plenty of white light with the S4s hanging under the mirrors. (And my Ranger has to park in the driveway, too many bikes for her to be inside.)

That works very well.

I ask because I have ACC and, when using the supplied bracket, was getting just the SLIGHTEST scuffing on the fender... so I removed it before bad things happened.

I moved it up in the right cowling forward of the radiator, but parts of the bike obscured the view. Now I'm trying this...

I gained about 12mm over the INNOVV mount. Just a prototype at this point; we'll see where it goes. I'm hoping this is high enough to avoid the fender at full compression.
@2tired, the INNOVV bracket is not compatible with the '21 so I was contemplating gluing the camera mount with 3M tape but I love your solution. It looks very neat. May I ask for the stl or the original 3D file?
Thanks for the feedback @Jay_p. Sure, I'll post up an STL once I have something I like. I'm still refining the design and I want to get it just right before putting it out in the wild. The one in the photo is the sixth iteration with about three tweaks in each generation. My desk is filling up with the old ones... like tribbles.

Out riding it near the mountains. Temp dipped below freezing and there's a little bit of light snow coming down now. Going to finish up this lunch and head back to the city.

I look forward in hearing good results!

Presently I’m using the af-xied-o2-sensor manipulator to adjust the fueling on my ‘16RT, which works great on off-idle to maybe 7500rpm, then IMHO it goes rich (at least with my settings). But is a major benefit to my Black Widow header non-flapper valve system and Arrow muffler in allowing my bike to finally run properly.

But I know there are better options than what I’m running 👍
