NO not the dreaded FD failure club!!! That is still working fine
After 54,000 miles on the 2000 LT I ordered a set of Ohlins yesterday. I've known for a few years that the shocks were shot but the "Boss" said to wait. Well a few weeks ago "We" were out on a ride on a very bumpy & twistie road when the rear end started to step out on use after hitting a corner a lil hard. That was all it took to change her mine. Pucker factor of 10 is a great influence. :D

I also have a 2000LT and I've been thinking about replacing mine to. Did you replace both, front and rear? Where are you ordering from and how much?

I need a report too. I know my "Fat Girl" needs shocks but..... I just haven't been able to part with the moolaa until I know it is worth it. Let me know when and I would be willing to stand around and watch the surgery if you wouldn't get nervous and drop the MM.

Well seeing that I'm not gettin much riding done I'll do it over a few Sundays. I plan on both shocks & Smart Tire at the same time.

Never mind I found it - looks like the 551 is a heavier spring
I talked with Dan and he said it would come springed correctly based on what imput you give him. So I'm not sure why there is a different part # for just a spring change.

Ohlins Shock Absorber Rear Standard Spring BMW #BM851 $871.95
Mfg. #: BM851 Our #: M 57787 Vendor #: OHBM851
FITS MODEL: K1200LT 99-03 (rear; standard spring); SHOCK TYPE: 46DRS

Ohlins Shock Absorber Rear Heavy Duty Spring BMW #BM551 $871.95
Mfg. #: BM551 Our #: M 57789 Vendor #: 1310-0183
FITS MODEL: K1200LT 99-03 (rear; heavy-duty spring); SHOCK TYPE: 46DRS

Maybe, based on your input, he determines which rear shock to ship you. I was thinking you'd give him input and he'd tell you which he is shipping you.

Benny I gave Dan this info

I weight 240 lbs my wife is 120 lbs. I
ride about 60 % solo and about 50
/ 50 highway / twistie back roads. I keep
about 20 lbs of tools and other
stuff on the bike at all times.

and he sent me

Ohlins shocks for BMW 2000 BMW

I also talked to Dan about my short inseam (29 in) and he took that into consideration

Thanks, Steve. The 551 must be for riders, not a svelt as we are. After I replace the front tire, a set of shocks will be my next project. Looks like Dan is the man to do business with.
