About a week ago, I took Stella out for a run to the store. Just a quick trip, no big deal, right? Wrong. At the end of my street, I got a little impatient with the traffic pattern and wait time to turn right, so I decided to go after a smaller than normal gap in traffic to get on my way. I turned right, leaned over and goosed the throttle to get the big girl going, and just as I noticed a bit of slippage at the rear wheel, the slippage turned into bona fide wheelspin, and down I went. I wrenched my right knee a bit, but other than that my only injury was to my pride. Unfortunately, Stella was not so lucky. Right side tip over bar rub strip is pretty scraped, as expected, but the worst damage was the windshield actuators, left one has a broken link, right one is obviously bent somewhere, as the windshield will not retract fully anymore. Also, the chrome strip on the right pannier got a good rash on the bottom.

I know I can get the rub strip easily and relatively cheaply, and the parts for the windshield relatively easily (if not so cheaply:surprise:), but is the chrome strip on the pannier replaceable? I didn't see any obvious attachment method, but if it's an available part, I'm not worried about a snap or glue connection, just need to know which I'm up against.

Also, if anyone has a windshield retractor assembly they need to unload, please PM me, I'm your Huckleberry.

Sorry to hear that Mark but I am glad to hear you were not seriously injured. My bumpers also have battle scars although not all are from me. Hope you heal quickly and find the parts you need to get her back in shape again.

I have a chrome strip you can have cheap, it is pristine. I think it's the right one. They stick on with 2 sided sticky strip. I lost a left one and switched to black strips because of high priced chrome replacement.

Glad the biggest bruise was to your pride. That'll heal a lot easier than other parts!

Plus, you learned something, I'm sure.

The chrome strip can be replaced. Moderately Heavy fishing line and a hair dryer should do it. Or like the previous owner of my LT did. Stipped the chrome off and painted them flat black. I think they look better. The windshield parts. Check Ebay. Check Beemer boneyard. Theres a place in Canton Ohio. Pinwall cycle that has some LT parts.

seen a bunch of windsheild motors and linkage on flea bay for like $35.oo was going to get a spare Justin Case- I have nearly tipped mine over doing the same thing - but I have fallen over 3 time since i got this Lt 2 months ago- once she starts going i just bail out after the first time it fell over on me - the wife had to get the neighbors over to get it off my leg- Yeah my pride was hurt more than me as well. But my hurt pride is less painful than a busted bone

Well it turns out to be the left one that I have. Sorry. You might consider switching to the black plastic ones like I did.

Surprised, when I got hit, it was the the tip over wing and the saddle bag that prevented me from getting caught under the bike as it left a safety zone. Now the cigar in the tube in my pocket didn't fair so well...it was crushed.
