Here's the picture at the dealership and.. Here's the story why we have a new bike... John has an R1200R, Karen has a F650GS twin. In 2011 We rode 2up on the r1200R 3,000 miles across Canada and had a blast. We love to each ride our own bikes but we also found we loved touring together. We decided it was time to get a touring bike. With all the changes in the 2014 model we decided put down a deposit and wait till they arrived. We got a call on Friday the 21st a Blue one was in the back for us and would be ready for pick up Sat afternoon.
Last Sunday we took a long ride around the local mountains to get acquainted with the bike. Since it poured rain this past weekend we didn't get out but we spent time in the garage learning all the features. Still working out some bluetooth issues between bike, Nav5 and 2 helmets.
I can say its an incredible machine, totally different than the 2013 we test drove and I know I'm not getting on the back of that R1200R again. John feels he still has the sporty feeling of R1200R with the dynamic mode, its extremely powerful and Road mode 2up is quiet and smooth and oh so comfortable This touring bike is phenomenal. We are still waiting for some additional accessories to arrive and would like to know the consensus on painting the topcase to match. It seems odd with all that $'s spent they don't have the prepainted to match.
Very nice! I have mine arriving in May. Same color as yours. Don't know if I will paint my top box, but I will just have to wait and see.

I should see my '15 RT on Tuesday or so. I'll post some pictures then!

I don't remember if I had posted a picture of my '07, but here are some pictures of my new '15 RT that I had just picked up about an hour ago!

Just arrived home:

So THAT is what the blue looks like in the sun. Nice!! I see you didn't waste any time getting the top case painted to match. I guess you had some time to kill while your bike sat in BMW prison... :)
That's for sure!

BTW, for anybody looking to hook up the powered top box with aux. brake light to the '15 RT, you do NOT need to have the BC configured for it, as you may have seen in some literature! The powered top box will go on, and the brake light will work without any error codes! My dealer said that it is so for bikes after 2013.

The 2015 RT has arrived! Thus far, I have only kicked the saddlebag upon mounting and unmounting 97% of the time. I suspect the protective film is in my future.

If you are vertically challenged like me, I step up onto the side pegs and swing my leg over, same with dismount. Enjoy your new ride!
That depends on how limber you are!
My inseam is just 30", and I have had no problems swinging my right leg over without hitting the paniers, standing on the ground.

Just arrived home:

Congrats Pad, enjoy!
Thanks! Got it with the standard seat this time, and so that swap we had been talking about isn't going to happen! BTW, my dealer told me that if I change my mind about the standard seat, they will swap it out for me, at no costs, when I bring in the bike for the first service. Apparently, it's their normal policy. I think that I will stick with the standard seat though, even if duck-walking the bike backward on this seat is a little bit of an issue for me.

Well got my new '14 of Friday. Sunday today and first service is now due. Was a bit strange at first compared to the VFR1200 but really loving it now.

Picture taken at New Plymouth port in Taranaki, New Zealand.

Very nice! I am very sure that you will enjoy the ride.

It had been a very long time since I had been to New Plymouth.........

Took a short ride on your old bike today PadG..running good.

Was playing around with a new HDR program , needed a pic with bright blue, and thought of your new RT. A little over the top but Cool.

That '07 should serve you well! I do miss it!!!

Nice day for a ride today, even if it's 37 outside, but I am going to stay home and finish installing my new garage door opener (the old one died). I do prefer to be riding on weekdays anyway, so I will be out for a long ride tomorrow!

Nice looking RT you have there. Welcome aboard and ride it in good health!

January-mid 70s, huh? Sounds pretty darn good to me! Here's what mid-January looked like for me last year!

The Escort shouldn't have much problems with that! :histerica

I lost a few hundred pounds the fun way!
Very nice, and all that you have to do now is to change your signature line!!! >:)

Enjoy the rides!!!

Here is mine from a recent trip through the Alps (leaving in 2 weeks to go back for 12 days). The photo is from Grimsel Pass (Switzerland) and Grossglockner Pass (Austria). I can post more on that trip in the forums...but I can say my new 2014 R1200RT (LC) has got some good miles on it and handles stellar in the Alps.
Welcome, and very nice pictures/bike! I need to get to the Alps one of these days!

Thanks for letting me join this group. I don't know if it is expected or customary to make an introductory post, but here is mine.

I just picked up my new (to me) Biarritz Blue 2008 R1200RT yesterday in Orange County, CA (22,600 miles on the odometer) and promptly rode her home to Phoenix, AZ. I am the bike's 3d owner now. The bike performed great on the road trip home, but I almost froze my tail off despite long-johns, heated grips, and heated seat. I am still devouring the various R1200RT boards and posts, so I apologize in advance if I ask something only a newbie would ask.

Just brought home a new 2016 R1200RT in Platinum Bronze MTL. Had "borrowed" one a couple of weekends ago for a 3-day demo and fell in love with it. Traded in my 2007 K1200GT and don't think I will regret it.

Very nice! Now it would be perfect when you get the top-box lid painted to match!!

I just ordered the powered top box w/tail light for my 2016 RT (pending lighting harness) and the dealer will have it painted to match while he still has the bike.
Nice! Does that mean you don't have central locking on your bike? If so, then people here will want to know the details regarding that harness!! I had heard that there was one, but nobody had known anything about it! (No, I don't need one, just several people in this forum).

The bike I bought does NOT have Central Locking. When I was ordering the case the other day I brought to the dealers attention what I had learned here on the Forum, so we pulled the rear seat and he wasn't sure what to think, hadn't been faced with the issue before. He had the tech look for the part on his BMW site and the tech seems to have found the harness, "seems" being the key word. I should know for sure in a week or so. I hope it is a proper harness vs them just splicing in the connector end. What I didn't want was to try and do it myself. I can handle old school electric, but try to stay away from the new tech, especially on a new RT. I will try to get the part number and post it here when I do.
I suspect that what he had found, which others have also found, is one of the main harness for bikes equipped with central locking. Apparently it is quite easy to replace that particular harness, and it can be used on your new ride while leaving the connections for the central locking unconnected. I believe that there should be a better way, since if I am not mistaken, there is an open connector under the seat (of RTs without central locking) that has at the very least the brake light wiring. You needs only two circuits inside the power top-box, in your case, and that is the brake light and an always-on power for the internal LED.

BTW, you should know, if you don't already, that the aux. LED on that powered top-box is used as brake light ONLY! It will not light up as a running tail light! You can make it a taillight as well as brake light, and there are two ways to do so, but either one will cost you some more money. I took the expensive way (or cheap/free, considering that I had planned on doing this anyway), and that is when I bought the Clearwater aux. LED lights (Krista), it came with an electronic modules, Canopener, that controls the lights as well as giving you other aux. functions. One of the extra function was to turn any rear LED into a running and brake light. The brake light function is also programmable for different modes. I have mine set so that when I start braking, the brake light will pulse flashes, with the pulse rate a function of the bike's speed, and then cease to a solid red brake light at stop. The other method of conversion is less expensive, if you have no plan on spending money on the Clearwater lights. You can buy an electronic module from Skene Design, specifically this one (Skene Design Motorcycle Visibility Lights) and have your dealer's tech. install it for you!

Nice, ans welcome!! :)

Back on the Forum. I had an accident in June 2015 in Missouri and was sidelined for a while. Just purchased a 2017 Alpine White R1200RT.
Glad that you are back again safely!

I had never thought that I will ever like white, but this looks really nice!! :)

Some pictures of my 2016 RT shot from a DJI Mavic.
Nice! Looks just like my '15!! It will be another month or two before my Mavic will get out with my RT (the RT is still sleeping!)

Your bike is beautiful (same color as mine lol). I have the grey top case so would you mind sharing the color code as I would like to get mine painted.

Thanks so much!
The color code for San Marino Blue is B51.
