Warm & Safe, the company that makes the Heat-Troller thermostat, is marketing their own brand of heated liner. The list price on the website was about $20 less than the Gerbings liner, which it resembles. There is an eBay store that has listed them for $149.00. The Warm & Safe puts out 100 watts, which is a little more than the Gerbings, which is reputed to be one of the warmest products.

Anyone tried the Warm & Safe liner?

When I checked the Warm & Safe website today there is a message that the facility in Pakistan that assembles part of the liner is out of service due to the recent earthquake.

Interesting about the off shore assembly... that was a topic of discussion last year on Warm&Safe only using US manufacturing....

However, I have one and have had it now for a full season. I like it. It fits very well and that is good. The design that makes that happen is both a plus and minus. That needs to be explained. The sleeve and the body had unheated stretch panels that allow the liner to fit perfectly and that is good. The panels are not heated and that can be bad. If you have a wind proof jacket it is not a problem but if you intend on using the liner to supplement a summer type jacket I would advise that you get a liner that has heat under the arms.. However if you have a lined or windproof jacket.. like a GoreTex material you probably will like the W&S liner. I used the liner with an unlined leather jacket and was dissatisfied. When I put a liner into the same jacket it allowed me to ride in temps in the 30s. I haven't been in cooler weather.. this year it has been relatively warm fall and this week is the first of the real colder weather... I usually don't ride after the first snow.

There is supposedly the ability to use a dual controller and heat the front of the liner using a different power control. I haven't used this feature. I tried once as I have a dual control but was unsuccessful in making or adjusting it to work where I was happy.. It seems like a good thing but I have not used it successfully this year.

I like the collar it is very tall and warm. never had an issue with cold air squeaking by..

In my opinion it is well made and comes with a sack to fold it into and make the liner pack easily... good zippers and I haven't had a problem with it.

I think that a liner needs to fit perfectly to get max benefits out of the heat. If you have folds because it is too big or can't zip the liner cause you ate too much on your last vacation the W&S liner will compensate.. That is why Gerbing makes so many different sizes... so if you constantly change your belly measurements... (within reason.:(..)... the W&S might be the best deal.

Electric vests and jackets have occasional failures. Gerbing stands behind their products - what will W&S do re warranty service ??? Unless there's a solid answer here, it's not worth a $20 savings, to me, to jump from Gerbing's ship.

Bob I agree 100%. I have had Gerbings clothing since 2000. I eneded up having a part of the arm tear away from the rest of the jacket. Just a small tear. I sent it fedex overnight to gerbings and they fixed it that day and sent it overnight back to me NO Charge. They knew the tear was my fault and that the jacket was almost 6 years old.
I will continue to do business with Gerbings. There product is awesome and so is there service.

Cheers

Bob:

Since you asked, I copied this from W&S' website:

"WARRANTEE!! This product is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of One year. Manufacturing defects in the Electronics are guaranteed for the life of the garment. Heat-troller purchased with OUR liners and used only with OUR liners are guaranteed for 5 years!"

I had read about Warm & Safe complaining about Gerbings' using a Chinese knock-off of the Heat Troller, and was also surprised to see that the liner was made (in part) in Pakistan. I was trying to limit my post to one issue rather than opening up this particular can of worms.

I like my Warm and Safe liner and think it's a good alternative to the Gerbings gear. It fits very well, and is thinner than the Gerbings. I do believe they make a "woman's cut" liner also for the female riders. I think they can be purchased off their web site for $149.00 if you sign-in. d.
