Help again, as usual it seems.
i have been scouring the past threads for enough info to under stand how to make the stock gps wiring work, i have the gps working, power and ground through the plug at the sting ray, orange power and blue ground.i am having trouble under standing the white wire wiring. i have the garmin bike harness, with the 2.5mm jack. i picked up a 2.5mm wireable plug at the source and wired up the mono plug to it. i ran the centre contact to the white wire in the plug at the stingray which is gps audio, and grounded the out side of the plug to the blue ground circuit at he sting ray plug. result gps works fine, no sound. read al sorts of things floating grounds, that most peaple use the cell phone jack, i do not want that. i want the music to keep playing which it does when wired into the stock system.. I have checked the GPS in the car it works fine with the speaker harness.

can someone please explain the easiest way to wire in the stock system using the white wire at the sting ray, step by step if possible. I have a BMW Auto Com system in a 2002 lt. i am obviously not understanding the explanations out there. sorry for another GPS question. but i have found the web site grat in the past, so much knowledge out there.

Help please, thanks in advance Darcy

In general, you do not want to connect ground of the intercom side of the cable to anything. Have the cable's ground connect only the ground of the 2.5mm plug. The plug on the comm system side should have its ground interrupted.

This is because the 2xxx series of Garmin uses "floating ground" in audio output - connecting it to the comm system will load it down.

Secondly, the aux audio input on the comm system has very often a vox control (i.e., it will activate only if the audio level is high enough). You may have to set the GPS receiver to maximum volume output.

Before you go crazy, check your connections. Feed the cable from the 2.5mm jack into an earset or small speaker - even temporarily connecting with electrical tape. This will prove that the 2.5mm plug/jack connection is operational.

Hope it helps.

Dont know if it helps but I have been trying to fit a Nav 2 to a 2001 with what I think is a com 1. I have got it to work with the following wiring combination..
Red +
Black -
Yellow + input on a 2.5 mm plug... no earth on the plug one wire only otherwise the feedback is shocking.
Blue wire don't know not used
White wire as above not used
can get sound if I connect the white or the yellow wire to the input of the c.b. din plug but there is heaps of feedback and it clicks in real loud when the gps gives voice output.
Hope this helps,
P.s. I have tried to quiz my dealer on this but all they can say is thats all thats listed and it should work and if I get it sorted to let them know how I did it.
I can only get voice thru the right helmet speaker and nothing thru the bike speakers.
