I have a small leak in my valve cover gasket and was going to change it tomorrow since I have the side panel off for other maintenance, My question is, does the tip over bar have to be removed to get the cover off? I only see 2 bolts holding it on but the Clymers makes no mention of removing it. Also whats the torque to refasten the bar?

Sounds a bit obvious but I'm just checking.

thanks

Ron

Hey Ron, PM me and I will send you a table of torque specs for the whole bike that I got off the site a while ago. It has the spec for the crash bar at 9Nm or 6.6ft/lbs or 79.7 in/lbs.

The two M8 bolts get torqued to 21Nm or about 15.4 Ftlbs. If the gasket is leaking there was not enough silicone seal at the half round corners (4) and at the junction of the timing cover and the head (2). Also forgeting to tighen the one bolt under the spark plug cover is another leading cause of this re-usable gasket leaking.
