There's just got to be an easier way??

I'm using Tyre to make a route with multiple waypoints. I then save it to a file as a GPX file. So far so good.

I then used the Garmin tab and Copied the file to my Garmin Nuvi 55, but the route only shows up as waypoints and not a route? As in, it follows "line of sight" and not roads.

Off to youtube and found that people are using BaseCamp for this issue, but I can't get it to work like the guy on the video did? I import the GPX file into BC and bring it up on the screen. Then I choose to "recalculate" like the video and it doesn't do anything. It just stays as waypoints...anyone got any ideas?

I have been able to get BC to make a "trail" of the route, but my Nuvi doesn't seem to like that either.

Why not just use BaseCamp from the beginning? You can do everything you need to do directly from BaseCamp. Set up the intermediate waypoints in the correct sequence, select all, than create a route from the selected waypoints.

Update- I either set something correctly, or it decided to start working on it's own. Anyway, it's recalculating now....just wish I knew why it's working now....bugs me.

It's easier to calc distances with Tyre.

I thought the Garmin 55, and all the two digit models, could not have routes sent to them. I might be wrong though.

According to the Garmin 55 manual, the unit is capable of having GPX files transferred to either the unit or to an installed memory card. The files can be created by BaseCamp.

I researched Garmins that would accept routes before purchase. The 55 does...did it last night. I didn't want to spend allot of $$ right now on a gps as I think we're going to see some major changes in a few years. Just a hunch. At a little over $100 it'll get me by for now.

BTW- I figured out why BaseCamp wouldn't recalc the route. After it was working fine the other night, I went to do it again last night and......yep, back to it's old "non recalcing" ways??? What the??? After google and some forums I was lead down the path of "maps". Finally dawned on me that when BC was recalcing just fine, was when my gps was plugged into the pc. Turns out the stock map used by BC is "Global Map" and it doesn't have the detail to be able to calc routes. Hence, the reason it wouldn't recalc. Once I had the gps plugged in, I was able to change maps (look for "Maps" tab at top of tool bar in BC) to the ones that were loaded on my gps, and it worked fine again.

You can download the maps from your Garmin to your PC. I'm not sure of the exact sequence for doing it, but a google search will get you to the right support page on Garmin. I had the same issue but once I downloaded the maps the problem was resolved.
