Where can I find new latch pins for the top trunk lid? Mine are almost worn completely thru. Local dealer could not find a source or even a listing. Don't want to wait until they are broke and have to use a bungee to hold the lid down.

And... a quick search tells that a K1100 pin fits, even gives me the p/n. Cool!

I turned my pins smaller on a lathe to ease the pressure on the fragile latch.

Get a #35 chain master link , cut in half , grind to clean up , install with wee little "C" clips,

Great ideas..

I turned to the marine trade and visited a marine store and purchased clevis pins in stainless steel which have a small hole in one end and a cap on the other. Fit great and will wear a long time. Use either cotter keys or the round wire retainers (at the store) to secure them in place. Done!

I took a dremel tool and worked over the latch pieces grinding on them for more clearance
and the lid closes like butter with no stress or pressure on the pins . . .

I would call that a simple PM for not needing to buy a latch kit in the future! In the design
world we would call this effort FMEA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Failure_mode_and_effects_analysis)
- spend a few minutes to avoid a costly situation down and on the road.

Went to the hardware store and got them (Clevis pin). Slightly smaller in diameter but works well.
