OK, I finally got around to changing my tranny fluid, thanks to all who have posted their processes. Anyway, before I got started I rode the bike a few miles to make sure I burnt my arm on the muffler while taking the drain plug out, the fluid came out no problem into my catch pan rig. I filled the tranny with new Mobil 1 gear oil, approximately 700ML until it started to drip back out the fill hole. When I was done, I went to empty the old fluid into the recycle bucket and found that I had actually drained very little fluid. I'm guessing 300-400ML. Could the tranny function well with only half the oil in it? or did I leave some in there? If I left some in, how was I able to fill 700ML more? The drain plug had light greyish dusting on the magnet, nothing shocking. It does feel really smooth now with the new fluid

I'll do the final drive this weekend.

Thanks,

Check your swing arm boot for the rest of the oil:p ! Sure you didn't spill some? The way the gears splash the oil in the tranny running low should not be an issue.

Thanks guys. and yes, I did spill some on the floor, but I expect that when I work otherwise how could I prove that something was done. And, I have a flexible bottle with small clear hose for filling rear drive, marked in ML. Good to go from here.
