Got an email with a discount code for Metzelers for another 5% off the sale price (code: M235-METZ5) for the rear tire it works out to a little over $200 shipped.

I still have quite a bit of life on the rear Battlax or I'd jump on it, but I figured posting this would do one of three things:

1. Help someone looking for a tire
2. Get a response like "Naw, Mang, that's a bogus price, I can gettem for One-Fiddy!"
3. Bring about the apocalypse by starting a tire thread on the forum.

I am glad to see that I am not the only person to get this, I just assumed they sent it to me since I just got tires from them last week and this week I could have saved 5% :(

According to my email there also a coupon code for Bridgestone to get 5% off: M71-BRIDGE5 so people who prefer to go with the battlax also get a break.

Is it possible to get the discount after the fact.
I don't know if it is usually done with cylce parts and accessories but I have purchased from hardware and department stores and if the sale comes up within 2 weeks and sometimes 30 days some are glad to give back the difference. Some also have price matching. If you have not mounted them as yet why not send them back and get those on sale. Just a thought.

I think you have to pay for the shipping cost to ship back and that nullifies the discount, i any.

Did not think of that.
But I wonder if that still applies if the tire store were local. Would they make that price match agreement or else just take them back.

I don't need tires - yet but recently reviewed the new Michelin (spelling?) Commander II tires that boast almost double standard tire life. I'm wondering if they have a set for the LT.

I'm ready to order a rear tire. What is the difference between the 160/70VB-17 and the 160/70B-17? What does the V stand for? The last tire I bought from the Grand Rapids,MI store was the 160/70VB-17, it was $210 plus installation.

My understanding is 'V' represents a higher weight rating, my tires have the word "Reinforced" molded into the rubber of the sidewall, it is my understanding that if there is a V in the rating it will also have the "Reinforced" note stamped in - or maybe it is the other way around  .

Either way, don't take a chance on safety with a tire rated for less weight. Spend the $$ and get the right tire, motorcycle riding is dangerous enough, what with all the idiots who use OUR roads - the nerve. Make sure that all the links in your chain of safety are solid every time you put the kickstand up, and that starts with having the proper equipment carrying the load.

Long-winded but stepping off the soap box :soapbox:

Come to Canada, it will only cost you 343 for a rear metz.

And you have to install it yourself

This is one of the two reasons I do business with MC Superstore. When you have a question like this just pick up the phone and a very polite person will pick up on the other end. This is what moved me away from the place in AZ. No phone support before the sale.

That's something I've been meaning to ask: Just how finicky are motorcycles to wheel balancing? It seems like pulling and swapping Motorcycle tires is done by...well...more riders than Cage drivers. I can see where car tires are larger, harder to deal with, things...and I know a couple of my wheels (Cheap versions of Corvette factory wheels) take a LOT of tape weights to balance out.

I just bought a metzeler me 880 marathon 160/70b-17 no tax, shipped for $172 from chaparral motor sports.

The v rating is a higher speed rating. My current rating is not the v rating.
