I recently bought a metzler rear tire, me 880, while on holidays. When I got the tire home it was the wrong load rating so I didn't put it on. A friend suggested I install the tire but put an inner tube in so it would be able to take the weight of the bike better.
Any thoughts on this idea.

I would not, better to exchange the tire you received with the correct load rating.

Your inner tube has no steel or nylon reinforcements, right? It is made of rather thin rubber and installing that inside your wrong-rated tire does not increase the load rating at all. If your tire gives up the tube will not hold it together. It may be that it takes a few seconds longer before the air escapes from the torn tube but I wouldn't feel comfortable relying on that...

Ditto - get the correct tire. I personally wouldn't gamble on this safety item.

Thanks guys. I thought it was a bad idea. I bought the tire in LA on holidays and live near Toronto so will try to sell it
