This may not be the right place to post this, so feel free to "correct" me.

We are putting together a charity ride this fall and I am looking for advice. We have a decent route defined but I am looking to the community for advice, pitfalls or suggestions from anyone who has organized an event like this in the past. What am I stepping into? what do I need to be careful of? if you have done this before, what is the one big thing you wish you could have done differently?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

OK, So far I am hearing "cover you behind legally". We have taken care of this since our ride is sponsored loosely by our company. I planned on having everyone sign a release (after it is blessed by our Lawyers). Does anyone have an example of releases they have used? or where to find one? I have found a couple online that I think I can modify.

We are nestled up against the mountains just outside of Golden Colorado, so our thought is to do a group ride from our work to Breckenridge (about 70 miles), have lunch there(hopefully sponsored), have some raffle items and maybe some other fun awards. If we sponsor lunch we are thinking we can ask for a minimum of $50 per machine. (maybe extra from the Harleys since they seem to have more money than good sense) We would then disperse and ride home separately. I have done large group rides and I really do not like them from a safety aspect. Not everyone in the group rides at the same level and this makes it tough. My initial plan for this ride is to break the group up into little packs of 5-6 bikes with an appointed leader and tail gunner position to keep the groups together. Has anyone else done a ride like this? how did it work?

FYI- the ride will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma society which is a really great charity. We are tentatively planning on September 22, so if anyone is in the area and wants to join in, you are welcome.
