I couldn't go through that without thinking of my Dad. Enlisting right after high school during WWII, he spent 26 years in the US Army, starting as a Private and retiring as a Lt. Colonel.
Dad spent a year in Germany when I was 7, and a year in Vietnam when I was 10, plus many shorter assignments around the world. He was gone a lot, but he was still the boss and my earliest memories of him are standing tall in his uniform.
