Does anyone know what’s the latest TFT firmware software version motorrad has released for the R1250RT 2022 bike?
Been emailing with customer support of Motorrad USA for several days. They don’t know…which is quite strange. It’s not listed anywhere online.
I know my firmware version, but looking to find out what is the newest version BMW released.

Here is the reply I got from BMW Motorrad Connected yesterday when asked about the latest TFT software version:

"We would like to inform you that an update for the connectivity / TFT display (vehicle software) has been available from BMW Motorrad dealerships since march. This update (version 013.012.050 for your RT) will fix more bugs and further improve the stability of the Bluetooth connections."
and further improve the stability of the Bluetooth connections."
It's a pity that it's the WiFi connecton that is causing most problems :(

Hi, how long did it take? When I was in for my last service, they told me it could take 2 hours or 12 hours. I opted not to have it done as I was waiting.

I was told it would be 3-4 hours…but it took less than 90 minutes in reality.

Thank you. Maybe I’ll give it a shot next time.

I'm not sure but less than an hour.
The previous update also took less than an hour.

I got the same bullshit from my dealer. Don't fall for it, all my updates have taken about 20 minutes. I think shutting my phone off while they were doing the update helps the time factor. The bike's not trying to do 2 things at once.

Had a long conversation with a tech about my BMW 5 series getting a software update as people had been reporting anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours for an update. He said the software was still being distributed from servers in Germany and the variable update speed was a factor of the the dealer's type of Internet connection, the reliability of the connection, the load on the servers in Germany and if a reload is required. I would imagine they handle the bikes in a similar way. As far as I know - the updates are a complete load of the firmware so it's the same size each time; the variation in time being the factors above.

If they had any brains at all, they should just down load the update once to the dealers computer and use that copy to update all the bikes leaving the internet connection out of the picture. But what do I know ...............................

I don't think the BMW diagnostic system is designed for that - but I'd be glad to be educated. As part of that conversation I found out software updates post-warranty were charged at the shop's labor rate of $125 per hour. Meaning a software load could cost from $125-$625. Since the 5 Series was requiring an update every couple years, I sold the car shortly afterwards.

It's pretty simple. The diagnostic system is a computer. All computers need storage space for the operating system. Put the update on the storage hard drive and use it from there instead of down loading it every single time you need it. And as far as getting charged for any update under warranty or not, is total BS. The manufacturer is responsible for all software and firmware updates usually because of safety concerns. I just got my 2015 Mustang's, which is 4 years out of warranty, software/firmware updated for a rear camera failure totally free. And the update fixed it btw, miracles do happen ...................................

I realize the design concept is straight forward (I've been an architect for an OS everyone here is likely using), but I thought the Diagnostic System connected to a BMW server to validate the VIN and thus the configuration to know which file is appropriate to load and is fetched from the same server as part of that process. While the load could technically happen locally, if the system was not designed to do that, it's a matter of implementing changes to a system that is currently working.

As to the fees for updates - there is no law in the US requiring gratis updates post warranty. Safety recalls implemented in software are a special case. Besides which they are pretty rare in the BMW world and I would anticipate being done at no charge. The vote we get is with our pocketbook - hence my sale of the car and will likely never buy another BMW auto for this and other reasons.

If you let them know that your are having "issues with connectivity" wink...wink...they will not charge you. I had mine done. Their computer initially said it would take 14 hours, but ended up being 45 min.
