Hi
I have a 2000 lt from new, it has done about 36,000 miles, there is an oil leak coming out of the vent hole which hopefully is an oil seal, secondly the sump case with oil level sight glass in needs a fresh coat of paint, to remove this the combined water/oil pump needs to be removed, the fasteners on the outside and inside securing the sump case nee to be removed, is it this simple? the workshop manual does not describe its removal.
Has any one any experience?
Many thanks
Paul from Wales

sounds like like the breather tube #5 has hardened leaking oil look between the radiators witha torch if you see oil in the valley this is the culprit, there is no oil vents in the motor that I know of, to fix this you need to remove the carby's fuel tank etc etc painting the sump is the least of your worries :)

Removing the sump is not a trivial task. The leak you refer to if it is the small weep hole in front of the engine you just remove the oil/water pump assembly and have the seals renewed. To pull the sump requires the transmission and clutch to be removed as well as the oil/water pump. The sump supports the main drive gear.
