My 2730 finally gave up the ghost so I am looking at the Zumo 665 for my 05 LT with BMR Copilot shelf.
I already got some ideas from Touratech for securing the unit and from BMR regarding the bracket, but I would like to see real life installations.
The voice and music will go through my Baehr comm system.
Thanks! ;)

Thanks Howard. How do you lock your GPS? Are you using the "security" screw?

Gilles,
The 665 does not use a locking system however it does have a quick disconnect button on the motorcycle mount (comes in the kit from Garmin) that allows you pop it off quickly. I remove it when I feel the need and put it in the trunk or carry it in my helmet when I walk around. The BMR sunshield is also good for it has a cut-out for getting to the release button. Yes, I have mine on the BMR shelf with the BMR bracket that I had my 2730 then Zumo 550 mounted. The 665 mounts up with slightly longer screws and spacers.

Gilles,

Same thing Ernie said. Whenever I'm off the bike I remove the GPS and lock it up in one of the cases. Takes just a second with the quick-release button on the Garmin 660/665 motorcycle mount.

Thanks Howard and Ernie.
I was looking at the Touratech locking mount but the $175 price tag had me pause and think...

I use a ball and arm attached under my shelf.

Bringing the unit witth me whenever I'm off my bike is easy.

Do you have any mounts or locks for the 2730 you'd be willing to part w/?

Disregard. I see you used one of those shelves, and you plan to w/ your Zumo.

Not a shelf installation; I used the factory GPS location. Still, it gives you some alternatives.
Howard: my LT originally came with the Nav III wired and mounted. From your pics it appears that the 665 mounts to the factory mount. What about the wiring for the 665? What is necessary for plugging the 665 in?

Any further information on how the 660 was wired? Did you cut into the wiring harness as it is so long?

I currently had a 550 in place and it has died so I'm replacing it with a new 660.

Sorry guys, I haven't been watching this thread.

I had a dealer do the installation. My '09 came with a Nav III wiring harness (I think that's what it was). In short, he removed the old wiring harness, replacing it with the 665's wiring harness.
