Hello all,

I am considering purchasing the Shoei RF1100 helmet and installing the J&M headset from my RF800. The RF1100 has the speaker cutouts. In speaking with J&M yesterday, they said the generic headset would not work. It requires a customized headset that J&M would need to install. You can not purchase this headset. According to J&M, the generic headset interferes with the air flow for ventilation.

Can anyone comment on the RF1100 helmet with the J&M headset? Anyone install one themselves?

Mine is the RF1000, so no direct experience. I suspect the problem is in the mike, not the speakers. Converting to the flip front style mike, which you can buy separately, should solve the problem. You will likely need to keep the chin vent closed to talk.

Thanks.

I plan on looking at the RF1100 this weekend.

Anyone else out there with a RF1100?

Hello,

Wanted to post an update to my intial question.

I was able to sucessfully install my J&M elite headset into my Shoei RF1100 helmet.

Not a difficult task.

J&M told me the headset would not work and need a new one headset. J&M wanted $300 for the headset and installation. Oh, and they would not sell me the headset, go figure.

$300, I paid $325 for the helmet, that was hard to swallow.

The RF1100 has a removeable liner. I was able to route the wires inside the shell and taped them to the inner shell. For the speakers, they fit snug in the existing speaker cut-outs. Do not use velcro to hold the speakers in place, use double stick tape.

The microphone was mounted at the 9-10 o'clock position, right against the left side cheek pad. Again I used double stick tape.

Ping me if you have any questions.

I just purchased a couple of new RF1100 helmets and wanting to add the J&M units. Was wondering about the headset with the boom mike, which series headsets did you install. Also, any other tips?

Thanks,

Sorry no RF1100 but how about a Shoei Multitec.
I got one last year and it had probably the same cut-outs for the speakers. The Multitec is a FF flip up and I got the J&M set with a boom mic. I had help installing the speakers and mic. The system called for J&M but the important thing was the lower cord which I had to get specifically for my LT (at dealer). Bottom line it works. I also looked at a post on AVrider that had pictures. Hope that helps. Everything was bought separately.
