My driver's seat heater has an open somewhere in the element and does not function.

I've test this with OHM meter, both HI and LOW settings read "open" until I press on the seat just right from the top. I can feel the element through the cover, so something's wrong.

Before I go and start tearing the cover off, has anyone attempted to repair the element (soldering a wire across the bridge, etc.)?

Or, is a replacement heater element available? Or is it just cheaper to replace the seat?

Nice thing is that we're now into the 70s here in CA, so I won't need it until next winter...:D

Thanks!

I'd say you've got a couple of options,
one is keep an eye out for another seat between now and next winter,
the other is solder the wires they are very small,
as far as availability, probably
but I doubt you'd want to pay what BMW would get for one,

Some of the custom seat makers offer a heated seat as an option,

if you're handy there's not a lot of difference between a MC heated seat than a car seat heater, except size.
