Brought my R1200R in for it's first service, and was given a choice of a few bikes to use to get me back home while waiting for them to complete the service. I've ridden most every BMW made....except for the S1000RR. OMG, this bike is insanely fast! I was barely playing with it at a sub 8000 rpm and it is scary quick and pulls hard and effortlessly. Love the shift-assist (give it throttle and just click up thru the gears - no touching the clutch lever) it is sooooo quick and so smooth....wish all bikes had that feature.

Now I might not trade my R1200R in on one as the riding position gets tiring for an old guy like me, but it sure is tempting. Gawd this bike is fun! (of course I'd be in jail in no time as I'm going 105 in 3rd gear and I've only used 1/2 the gears....)

If you get the chance to demo one, it's well worth it!

Michael,
The bike is amazing. In a blink she was up to 120 and I still had about 6,000 more RPM and 3 more gears. From a standing start, in "normal" riding conditions, you could bring it up to 3-4k and just hold it when you click thru the gears with the shift assist just as fast as you can - it was incredibly smooth - I wish all BMW's had that. (I think only the K1300S and the S1000RR has it) It just makes it so easy and smooth not having to pull the clutch.

I can't handle the riding position very long, but it was fabulous at high speeds, acceleration and cornering...when I got back on my R1200R, it seemed like a dog.

I'm hoping the new K1600's will give a bit of that strong engine pull like the RR did, but with comfortable ergos for an old guy (49) like me.

That is a beautiful looking bike, but the price!!! Holy crap that's a lot of money for a single purpose bike. I have a Yamaha FZ1 (1000cc's), and it's plenty fast enough, but for about half the price of the R1000. AND it has a back seat.
Haven't opened it up yet. Did get it to 143 in 4th gear, but ran out of road. And draggin pegs on those bike is fun. What a kick in the pants.

David,
You know what I'm talkin' about! ....and your Ducati is no slouch as comparison (no doubt a similar quickness as my R1200R)

Love the look of the Hypermotard - Ducati designs are so unique. Just love them. Are you pleased with it? BWM vs Ducati...which is your fav?
