On my 2002, If I am doing 72mph (gps) my rpm's are at 4k approx. On a 2000 I recently rode the rpm's are at 3500 for the same speed. What is the rpm's on your bikes if other than 2000 and 2002? I probably use more gas on my bike traveling at a higher rpm than on the 2000.

Mike, I assume you are allowing for the speedo error on my 2001???

Sorry Jack, I meant 2001, There is a 500 rpm difference between your bike and mine at the same speed indicated.

Mike,

If I remember correctly our bikes are geared a little lower than the early models, thus the better fuel mileage on the older ones and better acceleration on ours. Your 4K is about the same as mine.

Anyone else?

Greetings.

On my '99 in top gear, at 100kph (60mph) my tach is reading 2700rpm. How does this compare to others?

Kindest regards to all.

My top gear RPM is pretty much an even split....60MPH=3000RPM....
40MPH=2000RPM...but I rarely use 5th gear below 50MPH, just too sluggish....75MPH=3750RPM...and so on.

I really like the gearing on the motorcycle, with 1st to 4th feeling like a close ratio performance setup, and the very long legs of the 5th gear, with about a 1500 RPM difference between that and 4th, you really know when you are in economy cruise mode....just under 55MPG, 2 up @ 65MPH. ( not by computer, rather gas station and calculator reconing).

Had to Check

2005 KLT.

5100 rpm in 5th equals 100 mph.
