I don't understand this . How can a riderless bike stay up? Did it have training wheels?

Get your bike up to 70 mph and set the cruise and let go of the bars. It's like you aren't even there. It doesn't need you to stay up right, it just needs you to keep it on the road.:rotf:

Physics at work.

A rotating mass (your wheels) will always try to stay in the same direction they are.

A gyroscope is a device for measuring or maintaining orientation, based on the principles of angular momentum. The device is a spinning wheel or disk whose axle is free to take any orientation. This orientation changes much less in response to a given external torque than it would without the large angular momentum associated with the gyroscope's high rate of spin.

The faster you go, the harder it is to fall over!

That's one of the best videos I've seen in a while - still trying to figure out how he fell off!

Got to see this in action as a teenager. One night at the local short track races a guy dumped his bike in a corner, picked it up and pushed into the infield. He was standing beside it and tried kick starting it. The bike must have been between gears because as soon as it fired it dropped into gear and took off. Turns out his throttle was stuck open.

The bike, riderless, ran the complete length of the infield. It even made a small jump when it went over a mound of dirt. It went right between 2 flaggers at the far end, boy were they surprised, crossed the track and rammed the far wall.

One of the funniest things I ever saw racing and a lot of strange things happen at the races. Boy was the rider pissed. Bend his forks and front rim badly.

Two members of our club were riding the expressway in staggered formation. The lead rider was shocked when the a riderless bike passed him. The other rider was jerked off their bike when their riding jacket caught onto a guardrail extension that stuck out into the road. Never say it can't happend.
