Loads of us have done this very successfully and are very happy with the results (This is on the 1200 Wethead which in terms of the lighting setup is identical).
Just take a search of this forum (as well as the Wethead section of the SportTouring forum).
I purchased the Cyclops LED kit for my 1250 RT which includes all of the bulbs high/low. If you want to save yourself a lot of aggravation the best method of installing them is to remove the entire light housing and install the kit. Took about 4 hours or so to completely remove, install, and replace the housing. The difference is night and day. For me, definitely worth the effort. Now the headlights match the LED rings and don't appear an awkward yellow as before.
Since a lot of posts about LED headlights on Wetheads are rather dated and missing a lot of detail about actual installation and formal testing of results, I thought I would post a detailed report on an install I just did of the Cyclops Adventure Sports high and low beam kit for the R1200RT...
