While the fork legs are off for servicing, I decided to install the rebuilt steering damper provided by CochinoSucio.

BUT... I am having a bugger of a time getting the T27 screw out of the bottom of the bloody thing (yes, I removed the protective cap first).

Any special technique needed?

If I end up stripping and then drilling it out, what size screw will I need to purchase to replace it? (EDIT: M8x1.25, 25mm from tip to shoulder)

Use a hairdryer to heat up the loctite that is on the screw. BMW likes to use that stuff on everything. If you still can't get it off, use a propane torch - carefully! You dont want to cook the whole damper.

I have a heat gun and will try that... was my first guess, but did not want to apply heat and ruin bushings if I was wrong.

Thanks LJ!

Heat did not help, I had to drill out the somnabeech.

Screw is M8x1.25 x 25mm (length of threaded portion to shoulder of bolt).

I replaced with a hex socket head bolt from my massive box o'fasteners collected from multiple parted-out LTs. Sha-wing... Back in bidness!

Time to shower up and head to Mass. The LT will still be here when Mozzie and I get back.
