Question:

Redline v BMW Super Synthetic...

Is Redline a better option for the final drive?

Is Redline a better option for the gearbox?

If so, should I use the standard or Heavy Shockproof?

BETTER? Well, it sure made it FEEL a LOT smoother! Noticably smoother...Most people use it in BOTH.

My thinking is that some multi-viscosity oils thinout under usage -- especially in the final drive -- and CONTRIBUTES to the failure. (I still have NO DOUBT that the real culprit is a combination of poor design, poor quality parts and improper assembly - all of which spell DISASTER).

BUT - I am trying the REDLINE HEAVY because is provides heavier coverage of the gears/parts and yet, is not too thick. Simply put, it just seems to CLING to the parts better, hence, providing better lubrication (i.e. - less metal to metal contact).

I am using it in both the tranny and final drive. Time will tell.

Heavy shock proof in both, final drive and transmission.

and yes...both Mike and myself experienced a VERY noticeable difference in the smoothness of the transmission when it shifts. Not as "clunky", so to speak.
