I'm trying to install a.new rear shock (Ohlins), and I've run into a problem.

The instructions that came with the new shock suggest that the shock can be replaced without taking off the gas tank, so that's what I tried. Bottom bolt, no problem. Top bolt, problem. I had to loosen the frame bolt (?) next to the upper shock bolt in order to get to the nut. Now, the upper bolt's nut is off, but the bolt will not come out and is very hard to turn, almost like it's galling. There is no load on the shock (the lower bolt is off), so I don't see why it should be binding up like that.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Best thing to use would be some tap magic, but any penetrating oil would also help. May have formed some rust between the shock pivot and the bolt. Spray it and work it back and forth to see if it will free up.

Like my circuit analysis teacher used to say- problem solved.

Soaked it in WD40, then took the Tupperware off the other side. This allowed me to sneak in long tapping punch and drive it out.

Thanks!
