Rear brakes started squealing at about 2k. I'm real hard of hearing and don't wear my hearing aids when I ride so it didn't bother me, could barely hear it. Wife complained about it some but not enough for me to do anything about it. Went out riding today and got to thinking, brakes haven't squealed in a good while. Have not done a thing with them, just ride it, maybe just needed some breaking in? Tend to not use the brakes a lot, compression braking works very well for me, however, when I do use them, I do get on them, do not use them lightly.

Change the pads. EBC are very quiet in my bike. Mine started to sound like metal on metal. When I pulled them, they had a lot of material left.

Brake squeal

Maybe these things just get a glaze on them that needs to be burned off?.........

I have tried alot of fixes. My brother advised getting some goop for the back of the pads at AutoZone (see photo). Bought the EBC 304HH pads ($37) and the goop ($5) and did some champfering of the edges of the EBCs with a hand file. Then I bedded them in with some aggressive braking. They sound good so far.

This nagging problem has been bugging since i bought my bike 3 years ago. I've tried ceramic pads, cereal box cutouts, brake cleaners, hard braking, really hard braking, cussing, and turning up the radio to drown out the god-awful screeching.

I still can't believe it is so difficult to have normal brakes on such a technological machine. The Germans should be embarrassed on this one.

I used that exact same 'goop' on my origional OEM pads when I got this thing. Worked for about a week. Mostly just made a hella mess to clean up when I put new pads in later on.

But, since doing a proper bedding in I only get the very faintest of reminders now and then. One good run and stomp quiets even that much for good bit.

yeah, but i'm to the point that everything i try... the brakes still sound like shite. at least the pink goop allowed me to enter and exit my parking slot today without pitiful looks like i was streaking nails on the blackboard. the "bedding in" hard braking process definitely did not work on the ceramic brake pads i just embarrassingly screeched around town for the past year.

what's a new rotor cost? every mechanic i ask says the rotor is virtually new and does not need replaced... but if that damn squeal comes back... it's going to be a rotojob.

15 years on a goldwing and never once heard the brakes. 3 years on an LT and only 3 weeks of no squeal. still hoping for a cure cause my LT runs circles round the wing.
