i'm one of the exclusive club of folks that has burst the front brake line above the junction during a bleed. ;-)

given the timing of my event close to a trip, i passed on replacing the rear line - especially after a peek at my shop manual showed the rear subframe of the bike being removed to access it.

(really - go look!)

had anyone here changed the rear line on a ABS-II bike - 99/2000 - and been able to change out the rear line without access to the shop crane that the factory manual calls for?

If it is just the flex line you are changing you don't have to remove the rear sub frame. You may have to if it is the hard line you want to replace.
