I have notice on rough roads or when I hit a bump, a rattle has developed. It seems to be coming from the lower mid to the rear of the bike, I cannot pinpoint it exactly. It sounds like metal on metal. I have had it up on the center stand and cannot duplicate it. Any ideas on where to look?

Whack on the tire with a rubber mallet on the center stand? Check the muffler shroud too. However, if touching the rear brake makes it stop, you may need the ebc rear rotor.

The "cowbell" syndrome is a good guess. That is a rattle in the rear brake disk that is common on some models, '05 in particular and maybe a year before and after. I don't think the earlier models had that problem nor the latest years. If that is the problem, there is a BMW fix that will cost you as much as $700 with labor and an aftermarket fix with an EBC rotor that will cost you less than $200 if you do it yourself. I found a lot of postings on the website under "cowbell" that helped me solve the problem on my '05.

I should have mentioned that I just put the EBC rotor and EBC HH pads due to the same problem...FIXED.

I hear rattling on the gravel drive and believe I have tracked it down to the factory passenger floorboards moving around.
