I just purchased the jensen 2212 radio. I have been looking for the wiring schematics and cannot find them on the internet or the cd I have. Could someone send them to me. The radio is supposed to be here today. I have a 2004 with cd. Thanks.

John, could I get your to send me the wiring diagram also? I'm swapping out mine also. It's also an 04 with single cd. I've loaned out my clymer and want to do it before the manual comes back

I'm excited to hear how it works for you. I'm considering the same thing, just waiting for my wife to calm down after all the other things I have bought! :D Please keep us informed how it goes for you. Are you planning on taking pics or video?

Attached photos are the end result. I am pleased with how it came out. The only other thing I have to do since I mounted it flat I need to put a rubber or vinyl piece on the end where I cut it due to the 1/2 inch gap between the radio head and the top trim piece for a cleaner look. I used the original plugs and soldered the connections. The sound is 10x better.

Nice! :thumb: A Jensen "Application Specialist" is real interested in how their units are being mounted. I told him about a few problems some of you have had to overcome retrofitting the Jensen unit and hoped they could remedy them - especially the tie-in to our remote unit. I'd like to see a cover plate that replaces the one we have to cut, too!

Any other problems you all see that Jensen should be aware of?

Mike: hey there just a quick hello from South Jersey. How have you been? I have been talking with Bob about the whole radio issue and will probably make the change over too. How did yours come out? I heard from Bob that the Jense radio sounds awesome too. Do you have any pictures to share?

Might I suggest a few things from doing mine earlier this year.

1) When you cut the top piece with the small BMW emblem in it away from the OEM radio, cut it as nice and clean as you can. I wrapped a few turns of Duct Tape around a fine tooth hack saw blade and cut on the line I marked.

2) Find yourself a thin piece of plastic about 3/16" thick by the length and width across that cut and use Epoxy or Zap glue to glue it on the cut line and trim it with whatever. That will make a vertical plate where the top of the radio will lie so you won't have that unsightly looking lip that you can see under when you are on the bike and when you are showing off the new radio. I sanded mine, primed and hit it with several coats of Satin black and then glued the BMW emblem back on. Looks new.

3) Go to Ace Hardware or the likes and get a short run of 3/8" plastic tubing and cut yourself two pieces of 3/8 to 1/2 " pieces to put under the top two screws that you'll mount the new radio with. The mounting screws will be under the two rubber pieces on the sides of the radio. That will elevate the top of the radio so you can better see the display, especially if you have a tank bag like the nice RKA that works so well on the LT.

4) You will see when you get into this installation that you'll have a BUNCH of extra cable to squeeze into a relatively narrow place. I choose to cut off the large BMW plug after checking with my Clymers manual and marking what each wire was on a letter size sheet of paper along the left side. Then I looked at the color chart of the Jensen 2212 and lined up the corresponding colors of their cables and listed that across from the left set. Then it was a pretty easy thing to slide a 1" length of heat shrink tubing up the cable, twist them together and solder and then use the heat gun to shrink the tubing. I was blessed that day as when I hooked it up on the tank, all the radio functions worked the first time.

5) If you decide to use the USB cable to go in the Oddments box to play MP3's, get the shortest cable you can find. I have a 3 foot cable and found that as you bundle more and more cables up behind the radio, the space shrinks quickly.

6) Under the little piece that has the small BMW emblem there are two places where it screws down into the Stingray. These two screws were a good place to attach a couple of 1/4" cable attachments. These attachments look similar to a capitol P and have a hole down on the bottom of the P where the screw goes through. I used two of these when I started putting all this cabling back in and when attached, they were two loops under there. I used cable ties through these loops and around the cable bundle to pull it in to make it as small as I could. Worked on my '99 and still was a job to get it all in there.

These might save a little time and agrovation in the long run. And as always when you get it all wired up, do a test run to see that it's working correctly before you button up all that Tupperware back on.

Good Luck, and my 2212 does a super job running through my J&M Intercom/CB into our headsets.

Great Note! Thanks for sharing! One question, does your OEM left handlebar controls work with the Jensen since you married up the wires or are you solely using the faceplate of the Jensen?

Tommy your the man! I will use your suggestions and post a report when the job is done. I really like the idea of lifting the top of the radio up for a better view and thank you for the step by step explanation and if you think of anything further let us know.

I had to smile as I read in the local news "Local 83 old man on his motorcycle fails to negotiate a sharp turn just north of Anderson Mo." God bless him my preyer is I'll be out there on my bike at 83 and going strong.

On the 'Marrying Up of the Controls' There seems to be several that have talked about working something out on this, and I even remember someone that had talked to a Jensen representative about this problem. I did not try and work on this as the radio controls are right there in front of you and for the most part I only change something when I'm stopped. I can see the volume and channel control enough to navigate that while I'm moving but it's probably a good thing to do that at a light or break. I installed the Sirius module while doing all this modding to the LT so I put it on The Blend and that seems to satisfy the wife and I most of the time.

One thing I did do is to completely remove the whole OEM radio volume control module from the left side. As I have the J&M CB/Intercom radio, I made up a mount that would allow me to change the normal location from up over the left handlebar, down to sit mostly where the OEM volume control sat. I did this move when I already had the handlebar covers and other pieces off and I just removed the entire piece along with the wiring harness.

My bike is a '99 model and one that came without extra bells and whistles. I guess it's the Econo Model if BMW ever made something cheap. But since getting it a little over a year ago I have installed the OBC, On Board Computer. But when I installed the J&M radio in it's 'normal' location, I couldn't see the computer without leaning far over to the left. Now with moving the J&M I see the OBC fine. That is until I installed the cup holder... so now on long trips I juggle the fact that I like to see the computer, but I like having a drink along the way. Can't have everything... where would you put it?
