Can anyone help with information re riding Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay?
I am an Aussie who intends doing this ride next year (2011) on a R100GS and I want to know what I should carry.

I did it on a LT in 2007. Did not carry anything special except maybe a plug tire kit...........I read too much on the Internet which put the fear in the ride. It was not that bad. Bring your warm gear, cold year around............enjoy and relax.

I posted some info on the Nor Cal site (JoeSlump thread).

I did it last June. Great trip!

Also check out ADV rider. Many ride reports and threads on riding to Alaska.

Ray, like Mike in his post above, I invite you to stop by the ADVrider forum. You will find all kinds of useful info, both on your GS and on your planned trip.

For example, check out the ADV Trip Planning forum as well as the G-Spot (devoted to GS air/oilheads).

I agree with Motorman587 - people tend to over-dramatize their rides. Just bring a decent tool kit and be able to repair a tire puncture. That's it.
The most important items: bring rain gear and cold-weather gear! It sucks to ride while shivering.

Good luck on your trip!
