Just picked up an 08RT and am enjoying it to the MAX!!

For her I want to install an passenger back rest; no top case = already have one; Her comfort, enjoyment and sense of security are a HUGE priority.

Any personal testimonials or suggestions will be Great Appreciated!

THANKS,
Mike

Thanks!

I ordered one today (should have it in a few days and they are very good folks to deal with) - they indicated that they only have 11 left of the original 80 made for those who might be interested.

What I keep hoping for is a backrest which would install with a key just like my 49L top case. There are times I don't need or want that big box back there, but want the support for my wife. I would think that BMW would offer one. I suppose I could try to find a really cheap top case on eBay and then modify it into just a backrest, have the dealer re-key it, etc.

Seems like it's something that would sell if BMW were to make it. Maybe not, though. :)

That would be a nice option especially if it removed as quick as the top case does. I prefer the look of the bike without the top case but like to have the backrest for my daughter to ride.

I also took all of your advice and ordered "The Limited Edition BMW R1200RT Stealth Backrest" before they ran out. Received it yesterday, and it looks great. Unfortunately, my 09 RT isn't scheduled to be delivered until some time in April. :bmw:

Does anyone here have a picture of the underside of this thing? I was curious as to how durable the mounting is......how it's held together. The top pics don't make it look very safe. I'd like to get one, but if it's not safe (in my mind), I don't want it.

Since we‘re in the “post 2013 section” I will say the standard 49l OEM top box passenger padding works great for my passengers back support.
While the box ain’t light, it’s great to tour with even riding solo as the extra storage is nice. And on the post 2013 bikes the balance of the bike with the OEM top box is not that heavy feeling, now with all boxes filled and passenger, well that another story 😉
