My LT developed a oil leak in which I thought that it was the rear main seal. My dealer gave me a call and said that the leak came from a O-ring on a bolt that either goes into the flywheel, or holds the flywheel on. He said that it was the "good" german rubber that solicitifies. So of course while he was in there, he will be replacing the rear main seal, clutch, slave cylinder, and whatever else. He said that the clutch was barely half worn (at 64,000 miles). I should have it back tomorrow afternoon.
In the interim, I had a loaner bike, a 2004 R1150 TS(?). I will never complain about wind protection, vibration, or mirrors again! I do like those electric brakes, it will stop on a dime.

I will know tomorrow for sure, but I was quoted $1,600.

Riding other bikes always increases my appeciation for the LT. It's a nice reminder how nice we have it with this machine. Goodluck with the repairs!

Yep, every time I had my clutch assembly out, that O ring was hard as a rock. Would break it out in pieces. Seems they should have used Viton or something higher temp rated for that one.

I changed my rear main seal and O ring last month. The main seal appeared fine and the O ring was hard 74 k.

That is EXACTLY what happened to mine. That leak I had all the way from Dallas to CCR and back was that same o-ring. Same thing. I had 72,000 miles and my clutch was about halfway done. Had oil not contaminated it, it could have easily gone another 70K.

BTW, that price is about right.

Hopefully you told the shop to drill the drain hole for the slave cylinder?
