Not wanting to get into a long oil filter discussion. I am in a pinch, for some reason BMW pulled the franchise from our local dealer in Hattiesburg MS (I think it was because they sell multiple brands). The small business that I have been getting my oil filters are now selling only K&N part No. KN-163 for BMW’s. (they have a power coating on them). Has anyone used this, it has a nut on the bottom and want to make sure it will clear the cover.

im pretty sure any bmw car dealer can order the filters you need from bmw if you get in a pinch, or get a diff. dealer to send them to you. chicago bmw would probably do it and give you 20% off at the same time.

The nut will clear without any problem. I believe they are good filters, but would not use except in a pinch since they are painted.
