After yesterdays ride, while "post tripping" I noticed a build up of what I thought was oil on left lower side of the engine just forward of the #1 cylinder exhaust. This area gets a lot of road debris, tire, brake dust etc because it's open. At first swipe with my finger and wiping it with a rag it was mostly carbon. It probably has been building for a while, but I hadn't noticed. No noticeable back firing or oil consumption. About 3,000 mi after an oil change, I usually get to about mid point in the sight window so I consider this normal.

Anyone else have this issue?
Mileage 44,100 and will probably wait until 48K service to check out. Thanks in advance!

I get some weepage along the timing cover/head seam, and it drips a little bit on the lowers. Not enough to drip on the floor, but enough to make a mess inside the lowers. I figure (from other posts on this site) it's the timing cover gasket. Don't know when I'll fix it, as the gasket r&r is a big job considering how little it leaks.
