Howdy. I traded my LT last May for an Aprilia Scarabeo 500i. Now riding is fun, not agony. Not mention 70+ MPG. The Aprilia will run 100 MPH all day long. If I had $10k for the BMW GT, I'd be all over it.

Weeeeell, here's a bit of an update on the riding is fun bit. On March 31, 2012. I broke my left lower leg in 3, yes 3, places. The tibia just above the ankle joint, the fibula up near the knee and completely pulled about the ankle joint apart. More than a dislocation. Near as I can figure, I made a very slow speed left turn out onto the avenue so as to be sure not to run over a 20 something bicyclist. The avenue has an oversize speed bump right on the departing edge of the intersection they call a raised cross walk. It has been noted with painted triangles leading up to it. To the best of my memory, I finished up the left turn on the painted triangle immediately in front of the slope of the bump and fed in some more power. The rear wheel started to slide out beginning a low side. Reflexively, I rolled off power and jammed my left foot down to halt the skid and keep the Aprilia upright. I think that I slid the foot into the speed bump which failed to give way resulting in the over rotation of the foot and lower leg.

Let me tell you, I've never ever had anything hurt like that. Felt like a land mind went off under my foot. But I'm proud to say I didn't drop the bike and didn't fall off. I rolled over to the curb and opened the helmet as throwing up was seeming a real good idea and waited for the pain to subside. I got to where I could lift my left leg on to the scooter's floor board (thank god it's a CVT and rode across town to the restraunt for lunch with my 2 daughters. When I got there I found out that putting weight on the bad foot resulted in several sticks of dynamite going off under the skin and I could feel large pieces sliding around. So off to the ER after the younger daughter's boyfriend stuffed me in their car.

After 3 days in the hospital (a story by itself. Aparently ERs around here believe industrial pain killers are precious and don't give out hardly any. I'm now the proud parent of 2 plates and about 15 screws holding my foot to my leg. I'll be in a non weight bearing cast for 7 weeks maybe more and then working my way up through walking cast to walking boot-cast. Oh, the speed I was traveling? about 5 mph or less. Docs say wearing my Italian race boots saved worse injury. Can you believe they wanted to cut the boot off? $500 race boots? No sireeee! I made them unzip and peel my foot out of the boot. After I regained consciousness I agreed to have the sock cut off.

Well boys, what words of almost wisdom do y'all gots since I sure ain't riding for a while?

How's the bike? :wave
Howdy, Jim. Not a mark on it. Didn't drop it, no sir. Didn't fall off either. Roder over to the sidewalk and rested on my uninjured right foot until the world stopped revolving and I didn't want to throw up any more. Thanks for asking.

So if your birthday on your profile is correct that makes you an incredibly experienced and I'm sure wise man.. (notice I'm respectfully avoiding the words old goat :) ) I can only hope that I can break my leg in three places and continue to ride to my destination for lunch when I have that much experience in life. Good show!

Howdy Folks! Been awhile, but I thought it was time for an update on the gimp factor, meaning my busted leg and ankle. Anywho, I went in this past Tuesday expecting another greta x-ray and a pat on the head and who knows, perhaps ditching the roll-a-bout and getting the aprillia. Not so fast, Bucko! Turns out that the fracture has decided to separate and one half has shifted position!!!! Not only that, the healing that had been going on is kaputski!!! The surgeon looks me dead in the eye and tells me I've been cheating too much walking around and if at the end of another 4 weeks he don't see things getting back to sinless righteousness, then it will be time to get the cheese grater out, grate some bone off of my hip and make a paste to go in the fracture for a bone graft and that it's Major Surgery and not any kind of fun!!

Needless to say, I freaked! I happen to like my hip bone just fine the way it is and I thought he bolted everything back together so it wouldn't do that! Any way, here I am, still in the boot cast, still pushing myself around on the cart and the Aprillia is collecting more dust in the garage. Not to mention the wife is drive the Intercepter and I fear for the clutch in it.

Boys and Girls, don't none of you get old and decrepit. Because this all sucks like a hoover. Not to mention 4 weeks to consider the error of my ways and to try to positive think my leg back together. Oh, Man.

Karl, best be good.

I broke some bones in my foot in a MC accident a long time ago. They stuck a pin in it. Left a bit sticking out of the top of a toe so they could pull it back out when the bone mended. Like you, I walked on it and the pin worked it's way in. By the time the bone had healed they had to open up the back of my foot to get that dang thing out. The doc was pissed.
