Sammie & I are planning to go around the North shore of Lake Superior from Sault Saint Marie to Duluth on our way to CCR this year.

We plan on stopping around Terrance Bay , Schreiber or Rossport as that will be the half way point. Can anyone help out with ideas for a place to stay the night? We are hoping that some of our Northern friends have stayed in the area & can give us some help.

We were just there two weeks ago, going the other direction. We stayed in Marathon because that's where we were when it was time to stop. When I do it again I think I'll stop in Wawa one night and Thunder Bay the next to allow more time for farting around.

Plan ahead and don't count on being able to stop whenever you want as quite a few of the lodgings were out of business. I recommend reservations in a larger town.

Great trip and beautiful scenery! Enjoy.

Thanks for the Info, we have reservations at Island Shore B&B in Rossport. This will be the half way point between Sault Saint Marie Mi & Duluth MN. It makes both dates just over 300 miles so it will give us lots of time to sight see. :D

Sounds like a great adventure Steve,
you picked the right route through West Michigan,
I lived there for ten years and you'll be traveling some of my favorite roads there,
get to where you want to be before dark, lots of deer

personally I'd go a hundred miles out of my way
just so I wouldn't have to go through Chicago,
everything about that route sucks.

When you get to the Mackinac bridge stay in the right lane and cross the expansion joints at an angle,
north of there in August you'll encounter black flies,
I remember running back to my motorcycle to get away from them,

Take lots of pictures.

Thanks for the info on the bridge Hans. We have been warned already to look out for Bear & Moose up in Canada. We plan on hitting the road every day right at or just before sun rise & hope to be stopped before dark. Mileage wise we can make that happen, But stopping & smelling the roses then taking pictures of them will add to the time on the road. Not to worry about me taking Pictures. I just Photobucket has enough room for all of them. :histerica
