When I take both hands off the handlebar, the bike slowly leans/turns to the right. Is this normal, or do I have a problem? I'm not anxious to drive with no hands, but it occurred to me that this habit might be a sign of something wrong with the bike.

Don't think so . Mine tries to go left under the same circumstances..

If I shift my weight onto the right peg a little more then it's OK.

I think it's probably more aerodynamics than anything.. Try adjusting the wind deflectors and see if you can get it to act better.

I think if something bad was wrong with the bike it would show up in other areas as well...Like cornering and braking..

Could be that the windshield is slightly cocked one way or the other.

Are you always on the right side of the lane when you try this - it could be the crown in the road.

Also how many miles on the tires?

Also an imbalanced right/left load in the panniers will cause this. I always have my rain gear in the rh, with the lh empty. This combined with the pavement grade causes a similar veer right. I wouldn't call it sudden though.

I thought about the slope of the road. It's not that.

I've stored the tool kit on either side. No change.

Just replaced rear tire, no change.

On a long drive I experimented with the adjustable wings, no change. I even tried holding out my left hand.

If I press down on the left peg and lean left, it balances.

But I guess it isn't really a problem?

It coule even be that you're not sitting square on the seat, but have more weight to one side or the other. I know I find myself with "more of me" on the right side. I'll have to stand up on the pegs a bit to get "straight."

Pretty common behavior for the bike for all the above reasons (except maybe the last two ;) ). I was surprised to discover on a recent trip that, although I was seated at midline or very close to it, my head was not at midline with respect to the windscreen. I checked the screen to see if it was canted or off-center. Nope. So I started to play with postural adjustments and found that I lean quite a bit to the right. If I change my posture the bike tracks straight, but I feel like I'm leaning left. So now I don't worry about it.

Mine tends to go to the left. Always has through many sets of tires and a few different final drives. I figured it has something to do with the rotation of the crankshaft / driveline. But I'm no physicist. ;-))

Check your inner gas tank main stabilizer baffle or it could be your schmenky rod is bent pushing the pazuzi shaft and bearing out of alignment :histerica

Riding across Saskatchewan and eastern Alberta, much of Rt. 16 is flat, in good repair, pretty straight, and has very little traffic. I had fun putting on the cruise control and riding "no hands" (although they always were hovering above the grips). Along with weight shifting I experimented with using left and right arms/hands to catch the airflow outside the bubble created by the windscreen. Never did get the hang of that though.

Yeah, just don't let the bike get down to about 80kph (50mph) while you're hand-less. It might just scare the shit out of you! :eek:

That's pretty much exactly how I can balance mine.

However, I know for a fact I'm half-cocked! I do sit on the bike off center to the right. Way long habit as there are mostly right hand turns on road race circuits.
