Hope you all are enjoying your weekend.

I am finalizing the list of must-haves for the purchase of a 2012 RT. Until now I thought I wanted the BMW audio system. After reading many threads on this forum, reviews from various sources on the Internet and watching videos on the topic I am now thinking a Sena SMH10 headset linked to a smart phone or iPod to stream audio would be the best and most cost effective approach.

I do appreciate the function; yes I have experienced the audio limitations during a recent rental experience, of the integrated system. Two of the down sides for me are the poor performing Bluetooth audio to a headset and the fact that paradise does not have Satellite radio reception for either provider.

I am interested in obtaining a picture of the left had side inner body panel where the audio controls would be on the non-audio equipped cam head RT. If someone could provide I will be grateful. The only dealer here does not carry the RT so that is not an option I have.

Thank you.

Here You Go....

This is a 2012 in Metalic Grey. I was worried I would get a bunch of holes but it come with this nice cover. Very slick!

Eric,

The picture you attempted to attach did not turn out. Can you try again?

Thank you for taking the time to share.

I hacked into that cover to install a couple switched for my HIDs and power for my GPS.

Great and handy location for them. If I decide to remove them later, that cover costs $15.....

What a great idea.

Can you provide a picture of what you have done? That is certainly a better option than further cluttering the bars.

Small toggle is power to the GPSs
Larger black covered switch is for the HIDs

Behind and on the facing panel are the controls for my Gerbings Mounted Controller.

The dirt and crap are from the last ride before my right wrist went south. Hopefully, by the end of this week, I can ride again.... ;)

A couple of things. Good luck finding one without a radio where you are going to get the full cost of the radio off the purchase price of the RT.
I looked for a 2011 to find one without radio that had EVERYTHING else I wanted and it didn't exist. period. No radio means no nothing.
BMW marketing is packaging fully loaded to partially loaded. If you want a no frills bike you can find those too.
Finding one that meets your exact specs. e.g. ESAII, Cruise Control, TPMS and NOT a radio is next to impossible. I'm not saying you won't find one, but good luck in your search.
I basically got one with a radio and the extra cost of the tri-color paint job for the price of the RT without those items plus a generous discount so that the could move the bike.
I'm guessing that if you want to wait for almost a custom spec build and pay a higher price you can find one, but what is the point if you can get them to take a dealer stock bike and negotiate the radio for basically free?

When I asked my dealer to find one for me without the radio and without ASC but with ESA, cruise, heated seats and grips, etc, ect, he said he would try but couldn't promise. The next day, he called to say he found exactly what I was looking for. It was still on the boat from Germany and took about 3 weeks to get to Oregon but arrived just as I wanted. Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes you have a great dealer. Mine was Hansen's in Medford Oregon. Homewrek is right, it could be hard to find but it doesn't hurt to try.

To answer your question, I am very happy that I did not get the radio.

FWIW my dealer don't stock the RT...sucks but true. I have been in constant contact with my dealer and the salesman indicated I can order a bike any way I want but will just have to wait. The duration of the wait will be determined by the manufacturing cycle...could be up to three months. I see this as a small price to pay to have it the way I want it.

When I go in to pay the deposit we will see the response I get at that time.

Thanks to all for the input.

My local BMW dealer had several several with radio and several without. I bought one without a radio but with everything else (including heated seats). Not a problem.

That is good to know. Perhaps there is a chance my dealer can find one in the "system" so I will not have to wait for it to be built and cross the Atlantic.

I am interested in all options with the exception of low seat, low suspension, security and audio.

Here is a picture of my 09 RT I losed the cover on a ride to Florida one winter ago. So I just used some stick on Plastic chrome I got from The Iowa 80 truck stop.
