Put the EBC rotor on today, piece of cake. Also did the pads, about as easy.

The only scary part was when I took off the screws holding the rotor to the FD, there was no heating necessary and the screws backed out rather easily. Same same for the three that held on the ABS ring.

ABS ring went on to the new rotor with ZERO EFFORT. Stuck rotor in the deep freeze for a couple hours while we fixed and ate dinner. Pulled it out and the ring just dropped onto its new home.

Cleaned all threads, used Loctite, properly torqued everything, and then took her for a fun ride to bed in the new brakes. Wow... Great stopping power! It was actually peaceful and enjoyable coming down the alley and turning into the driveway without having the body cowbell clanging and echoing off of the structures surrounding me!

Thanks to all who provided assistance in the form of prior how-to posts on the subject as well as direct answers to the couple of questions I had.

I hope next week's clutch replacement goes as smoothly!

Tony, my back brakes have been squeaking since I got the bike last September, so it's time to replace the rotor and pads for me, also. Did you order your's online? Best place?

I share the same experiences as Tony with EBC rotor and brake pads. I got them through Motorcycle Superstores.

The rotor is driving me nuts also. Does anybody have the EBC part#. I found this at motorcycle superstore ebc rotor

I have a 2008 K1200LT with ABS.

The reason I ask is because when I select my make and model in the drop down box it list. K1200LT ABS or just K1200LT. If I select K1200LT ABS it only shows years 2003-2004. But if I select K1200LT it list 2000-2010. So im not so sure its the correct rotor. I called them and they said well your bike has ABS so select that. I told them it dont list my year then. So the guy says oh just select the K1200LT without the ABS. Now im scared I wont be ordering the correct one? Basicly the guy I talked to left me just as confused as I started.

You DO realize that you just responded to a post that is almost year old, right?

You will have to work A LOT HARDER if you wish to capture the record, however.

Kidding aside, welcome to the asylum.

How is that EBC rotor working for you? I only got 24K mi. outa mine before it went south and caused alot of vibration. The mounting pucks and center hub were worn out way too soon. Just went back to the cow bell...

Is working fine for me so far, but has only been a year.

I guess if one rides mostly surface streets and/or drag the rear brake a lot for slow maneuvers, one will get less miles out of the rotor.

I'm new to the forum. I've got a '99 LT with 145k miles. Just ordered a new OEM rotor. My BMW shop, Razee's in Rhode Island recommended against the EBC. I was late getting back from lunch, so I didn't ask him why... Will on Monday!
What is everybody's take on EBC v. BMW OEM rotor?
Thanks!

I prefer the EBC over the stock one for two reasons. 1. No squeal even with stock pads and it will never cow bell. 2. Less than 1/2 the cost of stock. I have worn out two stock rotors (got the second one on a low mileage rear drive). The EBC even seems to perform better and it holds up to the sintered pads I am using in the rear now as well (stock were organic).

There were some issues with the wheel hitting the ABS ring but I think they have sorted that out. Even if it does a second spacer solves the problem.
