I'm looking at a 2000 K1200LT with 40k miles on it for $6800 listing price but he said he'd take $5800. It has some paint and trim imperfections on it from the owner falling over a few times while stopped but all in all it still looks very nice. He bought it with 25kmiles and has rode it himself the 15k miles. Now he has decided to sell it because if it's size.

My question to you LT Gurus is what should I look for as possible issues during the look over and test drive? I've owned a 1995 K1100LT and a 1996 R1100RT. Both bikes were flawless and never let me down.

$5,800 is a good price. If you do purchase it the first thing that I would do is replace the slave cylinder (if it has not been done yet). If the slave develops a leak, it will take out the clutch in which you will be looking at a $2,000 job. The only other big ticket item ($1,000) is the final drive. There is a 4 percent failure rate. Mine went out at 52k. It is either a hit or miss item. Bottom line, it is a great price and I would grab it!

LT purchase?

Thank you guys! I thought it was a good price for me to get into a LT. He did say the maint was done on the West coast of Florida at the dealer. I will ask him if he can provide the paperwork. If not, will a dealer share the records??
I'm going over to ride it today with my better half. I'm pretty sure she's gonna love it! Is the slave cyl something I can do? I'm fairly mechanical. Is there any mileage point that certain things fail? On my RT there was a minor service at 6k and a major service at 12k. is the LT like that?

Service records....

I just talked with the owner and he said the last service was at "Happs" (spelling?) BMW in Sarasota, Fl. aprox lil less than 5000 miles ago.

Welcome aboard Mark! That sounds like a good enough price that you could even justify a little maintenance if the Bike needs it. I also have a 2000 LT which I bought new, and love the machine. You can do your own maintenance as long as you have the manual (BMW or Chilton) along with this site, which will allow you the luxury of seeing how others have don any given task possible on the LT before tackling the task yourself! Also watch for local Tech Sessions in your Forum. These are great for not only learning about the Bike, but meeting your fellow riders!

Oh yeah, your SO is going to love the LT! And if air turbulence seems an issue, just raise the screen a little while tooling down the highway. If that doesn't fix the problem, there are several after market windscreens available that probably will. And that is really the only complaint I have ever heard from a pax on these great Bikes.

Good Luck on your ride, and make sure that those handlebars are straight when you come to a stop!!!

Sweet bike!

I rode back over the the sellers house today on my Yamaha Vmax getting beat by the brisk cold wind along the way. Days like today make me miss the full fairing and adjustable windshield (I had a 96 R1100RT and prior to that a 95 K1100LT). I soooooooo miss having the wind going around me instead of pushing against me! And talking with my girl is out of the question above 25mph. I'm wanting to get my hands on that LT soon!

I think the bike is a standard but I'm not sure of all the differences. It has black mirrors and no chrome or cd changer. It does have plugs for what looks like a comm system. What kind or where do I get some of them?

Open the stingray (on top of apparent gas tank) if there's a stock intercom, CD player or casette player, it's in there..............................................

which model? Standard, Icon, C

I opened the stingray and there is a Cassette. he had a kickstand plate with a string on it stored in there so I did not notice any other outlets. There is a plug on the dash to the left of the speedo that looks like a comm type multi pin connector. Is this something I can just add head sets to for use? It also has a like outlet on the left front side of the trunk for the passenger.

My 2000 LT Icon had all the plugs for heated seats

The plug on the trunk is the standard BMW powerlet
The plug on the dash is probably aftermarket

Chances are you have an Icon or Standard model if you are minus the usual chrome around the driver and passenger footpeg area. Regardless of the model, the asking price is a bargain...buy it!

I have a 2000 LT.
Love the bike.
Got it with 13,500 miles and put on another 10K or so without issues.
One thing good about the cassette deck: Get a cassette adapter, and you can plug in a MP3 player, works good.

Enjoy the bike
